Husband failed california driving test twice **

Even moving across stateline you might have to take the writen test again, Moving from New York to California, I had to take the written test and sadly enough i didn't study much the california rule and I flunked it the 1st time, but didn't have to take the road test.

I also varies from DMV offices, If you fail in one you can go to a different DVM office, another trick normally the DMV officer will get you to take the test somewhere are the DMV office location, Take some time to get to know the area, watch for the speed limit signs, stops sign so you won't feel so strange like you are in a new area.

Well, I went for my written test a couple of weeks ago. Got perfect on my first try. I highly recommend the DMV Driver Handbook Podcasts! I listened once all the way though, and all the questions on the test were taken straight from that.

I have my behind-the-wheel test next Wednesday. At first, they weren't going to make me do one (the customer service rep. said "I don't think Canadians have to take the road test..." but after checking with 4 other people in his office (ultimately going to the manager at the back) he informed me I had to take it :( You were all right, the DMV "mis"information line had lied to me.

SO now I have to take the test in my husband's standard car with the sensitive clutch (because my car doesn't have the best brakes)... AND I'm not good at backing up or paralell parking any car other than my own... so it should be interesting. I told my hubby not to be surprised if I fail my first time around LOL

from what I remember of my test, all they made me do was drive around the block.. I think I had to park on the side of the street but it wasn't parallel parking... the test took all of 5 minutes...

oh and I wanted to add that you should make sure that everything is working on the car, like the lights, blinkers etc.. I am not sure where you are taking the test but here in Cali they were very picky about that... after 2 tries (each time having to make a new appointment) I finally took my FIL's car...

I would suggest you call your DMV to see if your spouse is allowed to be driving around on a foreign license.

The California test is harder than other states (in Virginia for instance I only had to drive around the block and show the guy where my hazard lights were). But it's still all much easier than the driving test in the UK.

That said, if you are nervous (which is understandable) or don't know certain rules (like turning on the right for example) then you'll have a rougher time. The nice thing is that you can keep taking it.

HeLp... any websites or links to know what's expected other than DMV Websites??

We had the same thing here. I just couldnt' get it all through his head. I hired a driving instructor for 2 hours....It was like $150.....she confirmed what he was doing right and worked on what he was doing all wrong. He ended up finally passing on 3rd try.

Maybe he should do one of the driving schools where they can monitor his driving habits and make recommendations. I got one for Claudeth and she did really well but has been kind of lazy in applying for a learner's permit

Here it is five months later and Claudeth still hasn't done anything for her driving permit. Ugh! She wants to drive but lives in a fantasy land thinking it will just happen without any effort.

Turlock? Careful you don't fall asleep from boredom during said test (sorry, can't resist - one of my best friends is from Turlock...he's a good sport about it ;) )

Falling asleep at the wheel... is that an automatic fail? :D

I drove around the block praticing yesterday. I think I'll be okay. I really do wish I had an automatic car to drive for the test though! I worrying about gearing up and down just adds to the stress!

I passed! It was pretty straight forward. I made 4 mistakes, including parallel parking (which is no surprise in a car I'm not comfortable with). I was allowed to have 15 mistakes and she even wrote "good drive!" on my test paper.

I am now officially licensed to drive in 2 countries! My husband says that qualifies me to do all the driving from now on <_<

The written test in California was taken DIRECTLY from the handbook. But, it also helped me brush up on my rules :)
