Question. Why in arabic songs sung by men - they always sing about "habibi"? Wouldn't that make them ghey?

I've always wondered that too...I asked my husband a while back and he tried to explain but I didn't have a clue as to what he was trying to say. Lol.

I asked my husband as well, and he couldn't explain the incorrect usage, therefore - ask VJ!

This Sunday I am being blessed by God cos he answered my prayers . He always provides me with what I need, so I will be getting an all German bloodline Shepherd, 2 year old male for free. The dog will require socialization and training which I have the time and experience to do.

Hola MENA peeps - lots of love to you all.

Awww, Sister Nagi - I'm so happy for you. I hope you have a wonderful time training him. May he delight your soul! :star:

Ladies, I would like to ask for a small favor - keep my hubby in your prayers. He has a job (and I'm grateful for that) but he's terribly frustrated and I have been praying that God opens some doors to a better job for him.

Thanks!

Rezando por to esposo Staashi...que Dios abre la puerta perfecta para el y le da ojos para ver la. Suerte!

Mil gracias, Amandita...te agradezco un monton!

I was right, the downsizing continued today :(

Last week it was Kim and Nancy, and today at the weekly meeting they announced that yesterday they let Margie go :crying: When they said that, I got like 2 little tears slipping down my cheek. This is getting VERY scary and I thank God every time I avoid a cut. Can't cut me,,I'm sales. I bring IN the money. If I get cut, they will be locking the doors. Sad, I say, just sad to watch an 18 -year employee get let go. I pray this recession turns soon.

Have a good day.

I'm hoping we will bond right away, Stasshi. I'm getting a bit excited, even though I'm still in mourning. I am asking for prayers that God will soften my husband's heart so he will except the new dog, as he is opposed to the idea.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

A guy singing about a girl and saying or calling her habibi (my love). I guess it's like the songs here they always say baby or girl or my girl, etc.

i think they're both clear on the definition of the word habibi. what they are wondering is why men are using the form usually reserved for males, as opposed to habibti, the form used for females.

I was told that habibi is often used between men with a meaning similar to "buddy" - slang, I guess.

Unless my husband is hiding a deep, dark secret. :o

ETA: That doesn't relate though to the question about using habibi in music to refer to women. I found someone else asked this question in another forum and the repsonses make sense: http://www.bhuz.com/forum/music-traditions...-pop-songs.html

Well, according to my mama (which does't necessarily mean it's correct :P ), the reason masculine forms of words are used in songs, is that in our culture it used to be considered inappropriate for a man to sing to a women in public. Now a days, you may occationally find a song where a male singer will say habibi or enty (you -feminine) but I think they mostly stick to the old ways of singing - in the masculine form.

Hey everybody! I'm back in my part of Ohio. I feel like something the cat drug in. I can safely say that the two plane rides home were the worst in my life. Good old puddle jumpers that seemed to have been piloted by rookies. It was like they just told the plane to land and she did. I thought the wheels were going to fall off the dag on thing!

Well, my son had his last surgery for awhile today. It went well and we are so thankful that it is over with.

I have tons to do with cleaning up and everything from being gone. Take care and have a nice weekend.

"Habibi"? That word wouldn't translate directly into English, but the meaning would. It's, like, the most endearing term a person can use for a male. It's not a buddy or a pal or a friend, it's deeper than any of those.

"Habibti" is for a female.
