Hi all.

I am working in a company with ton of overtime. And I am kind of tired of last minuts warnings since I can't plan anything in my life.

An example:

Can a supervisor tell me to work on a saturday just the day before?. Isn't here any rules of certain hours to warn me?

I have heard 48 hours. But I don't know for sure.

check with your state labor board. It looks like you are around Orange County. The labor board is in the state building at the civic center here in Santa Ana.

If you are an exempt employee, you get no OT.

However, if you are an exempt employee and working lots of evenings and/or weekends (I am and do) then a wise employer will reward you in other ways (bonuses).

Not all state labor laws are the same. I used to work for a company with exempt status for employees and the company ended up paying OT when a complaint was filed

I agree with AJ. I am on salary. I get bonuses for working holidays, and weekends when they request me. I get $500/holiday and $300/weekend. Cool eh.

Almost every month has a holiday. My wife loves me for letting her have $500 to spend at the mall almost every month. Well, she loves me regardless.

You can say no. They can't force you to work because the schedule you had is already made assuming you're on an hourly rate.

And a temp at that, can you imagine the agency is making at least 3-4 dollars more an hour than you are dear. Not sure about the days before they ask you to work. I try not to spring it on my employees if I can help help but soetimes things come up overnight.

I too get bonus for holiday work, hwoever mine are for Valentines day and Mothers day, no OT pay for me

But then they may say they do not need the services anymore if you do so it is a tricky situation

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

Yes I really know they are using me haha.

My problems sometimes are that husband and I have reserved a hotel from friday night til sunday. Then they all of a sudden tell me to go to work that saturday and we are ###### up. And they only give me 1 or 2 days warning. :crying: We can never plan anything

this is from ca.gov website regarding overtime... http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_overtime.htm

7. Q. Can an employer require an employee to work overtime?

A. Yes, an employer may dictate the employee's work schedule and hours. Additionally, under most circumstances the employer may discipline an employee, up to and including termination, if the employee refuses to work scheduled overtime.

I didn't see anything on short notice for overtime. maybe I missed it...

I worked at a law firm here in Vancouver. They would almost never pay for any OT. I had worked about 40 hrs of OT in a couple of months because my coworker was a lazy $*$*$. The last time I worked OT I basically told them I would not do it without pay.
