hi everybody,

i m going to my country next week, and of course the paranoia is coming every time i leave usa.

my conditional green card expired 2 months ago, now i have the letter from the I-751 removing condition.

My question is what i need in order to travel,

my expired green card and the letter?

is that all, so scared to leave the country for a month with expired GC

thanks for your replies

you could contact USCIS and check with them how's ur case going. you have to make sure that you won't have an interview date assigned for the time ur outside USA. could your travelling wait a bit? I've read on VJ about other ppl whose conditional GC's expired and they were outside USA. A lot of headache after. Some say that you might even need to start the immigration process all over. That's why call USCIS/NVC and double check with them before you make any travel plans. Good luck

My husband traveled with the expired green card and extension letter while he was in the process of removing conditions and had no problems re-entering the US.

Yes, you should be fine. The letter and your expired green card work together - the letter is proof that your green card has been extended for a year while your I-751 is being processed. Enjoy your visit.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I just came back to the US with my GC and extension letter. Twice on the same trip, in fact. The only question I was asked by one of the officers was whether I had applied to remove the conditions. Mind you, my card doesn't expire for a couple of weeks, but I'm sure you'll be fine. No one asked to see the extension letter but I'm sure they will once it officially expires. I'll let you know the results of my next trip, but I don't expect any surprises.

I just got back to the United States and I had no problems. Before I left the country, I had my biometrics taken though.
