hey guys,

so, i knew that being married saved on your car insurance, but i didnt know that you could list a spouse that is not even driving yet( i just never thought of it lol).

I was checking rates to add my husband on my progressive policy today and playing with quotes.

I noticed that there is an option to just list a spouse and one of the options is "out of the country".

Anyway, i listed Y today as a non liscenced driver and saved 13/month. I thought i would share with those who are still waiting for their spouses....any saved money is good eh?

i dont know if all insurance companies offer the "out of country" option, but progressive does!

This was something I never would have thought of, so maybe others havent either. I just wanted to share. :)

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

hmmm, thanks. i just recently added my husband on my state farm back in june. i do not know if it has saved me any money yet, but my premium is coming up due. it was mainly for additional evidence for the i-130. but i didn't get our cards until july (after i had sent) however, when i changed the name, they wrote me a letter, that i was adding him on the policy, so i hope that is enough proof :D. i have already scanned it in and emailed it to him just in case they ask for more evidence ;)

its all a technique to earn extra business/extra money. if people thought that it would cost more money to add someone to their policy, chances are they would go elsewhere to get a 2nd policy. they believe that if they give a discount, chances are eventually (if not sooner) they will have a 2nd automobile to cover, thus, they actually gain more money with more policies. like multi-line discounts. all about the benjamins ;)

You'd think that adding another driver to your policy would cost you more money, not less.

A bit counterintuitive.

ya, i never really got the logic behind that, especially by simply "listing" them...they arent even covering him.

That still doesn't make sense to me. They are not adding another vehicle to the policy, only another

driver for the same vehicle. I understand why adding a second vehicle is cheaper than buying two

separate insurance policies for each vehicle; if it wasn't, people would buy a separate policy for driver #2

of vehicle #2. However, if two people drive the same vehicle, they wouldn't go to another insurance

company to buy a separate policy for driver #2 because it would be too expensive.

Insurance underwriters speculate that "married" people are less of a risk, in terms of DUI/DWI, late night driving and other risk factors for those that are single.

This "unwritten rule" applies more prominently to those under 30 years of age.

Ok, that makes much more sense. They count on the missus to keep her wayward husband in line

Gosh, maybe I need to change insurance companies. After I married, I called my insurance agent. I was told that Allstate would drop me for being married and my husband not having a US drivers license or social security number. I told him that my husband did not live here, but he said that Allstate would still drop me.:(

Waiting.....Waiting....waiting....waiting....and more waiting..........
