Well from a paperwork point of view it is somewhat easier - from a 'qualifying' point of view - not necessarily.

Do you or your SO have a special occupation that might be in high demand, for instance?

he has an electrician's certificate he got back when he was a student

(his mom made him get it just in case, but he has done a bit of work in it)

and i'm a legal analyst/researcher...not sure if that would qualify us?

definately...but depends which route.

you could apply by profession, if they are in need of that profession...

or even spousal immigration, either way they do complete the process quicker.

so, that means i go first, and then i sponsor him?

would be neat, and what's faster though?

i'm just really getting down on all this, i knew i had my work cut out for me when i started this process and yeah were not even finished with NVC, but i'm just thinking ahead in case, God forbid, sh$t goes down and they deny him or whatever...

and it just seems that they got a vendetta against ME men nowadays....which is sad, yeah i understand it in some sense, but it still isn't cool.

You are almost at the interview stage. Just wait a little longer and it will be over soon.

You can go first and sponsor him if you are a Canadian permanent resident or Citizen - I think L179 is a bit confused.

Anyway, you might want to look here Immigrating as a worker: am I eligible? - it is an interactive tool on the Canadian immigration website.

oh no i will....i'm just throwing this idea around. we did toy with this for a bit but we figured hey...i'm an american. i got my cats, my fam, my everything here. let's see what happens first. if it doesn't work, we both go as immigrants to Canada...and i love canada anyways...wouldn't mind. just wondering if it's easier in general.

thanks

I immigrated to Canada from the US to marry my Canadian husband. It took 14 months from start to finish. US immigration, so far, has been a lot easier than the Canadian system. With NVC, at least, you can call and receive an honest answer. Calling CIC? Joke city! They really ARE the mis-information line. They do not give you any sort of information regarding your case, either.

Also, spousal immigration to Canada costs $1500 (that's what it was in 2007, at least). One major difference is that in Canada, you have to prove the ABILITY to earn income, whereas the US you have to prove that you DO earn income.

This topic is ironic, because I just read something relating to Canadian Immigration in the paper today.

Someone was trying to get a visa for his Chinese wife and she got denied. Apparently he has to wait up to a year for a decision relating to an appeal for the visa.

Just thought it was ironic

It is! The application package is 3/4" thick. You have to answer all these questions about how you met (you have to literally write out responses!), etc. After all was said and done, our package was about 6lbs and 5 inches thick.

Canada uses a points system to evaluate potential non-family based immigrants. You can do a 'self- test' here to see how you would fare. Both you and your husband should do the test, then the one with the highest points score would be the main applicant:

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I got 82/100 points! I should apply to move to Canada! =p I had zero points for proficiency in a second language, because it would only let me choose French! I should get some credit for knowing Spanish! (j/k)
