Hi all,

We're expecting the consulate to contact my fiance any day now (yay!), so we're working on the forms getting ready.

Have a few questions about the DS156 an DS230.

On the DS156, question 26 "How long do you plan to stay in the US?" The example guide states "permanently." I found a forum answer where someone stated that their lawyer advised to leave that blank. Not sure which way to go on this. We are sure we will be here for a few years at least, but have entertained the idea that eventually we might move to Europe. We have no firm plans of any of this, it will just depend on where life takes us. Didn't know if that counts as "permanently." In the same sense that they ask for your permanent address and that just means your permanent address for now. Because you might move eventually. Any advice? Would "unknown" be appropriate, or can "permanent" work ok in our circumstances of permanent for now?

Also, on the DS230, "List all education institutions attended" the example shows just the university level. Any experience with whether this is enough, or shoud he include primary school all the way through his master's degree?

Just put 'Permanent' - its not like if you move one day they'll come back and say "No..you said you'd stay permanentlty..."

Hi all,

We're expecting the consulate to contact my fiance any day now (yay!), so we're working on the forms getting ready.

Have a few questions about the DS156 an DS230.

On the DS156, question 26 "How long do you plan to stay in the US?" The example guide states "permanently." [This is correct and in keeping with the purpose of your trip and the K-1 visa status under law. By law, the purpose of a K-1 visa is to allow the holder 90 days from entry to marry the named US citizen and adjust status to permanent residency.] I found a forum answer where someone stated that their lawyer advised to leave that blank. [This is TERRIBLE advice. NEVER leave a question blank on a USCIS or DoS form. As the directions state, if the answer to a question is None, write NONE. If the question does not apply, write N/A.] Not sure which way to go on this. We are sure we will be here for a few years at least, but have entertained the idea that eventually we might move to Europe. We have no firm plans of any of this, it will just depend on where life takes us. Didn't know if that counts as "permanently." Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

US Embassy Manila doesn't require DS-230 Part 1 and Part 2 for K1/K2 and K3/K4 applicants.

Other consulates, like the one in Bangkok, require the DS-230 Part 1 to be completed and submitted before instructing the applicant to prepare the documents and forms needed for the interview. DS-230 Part 2 is required to be brought to the interview and signed before the CO. That's in Packet 3 instructions for US Embassy Bangkok.

US Embassy Manila doesn't issue Packet 3 anymore.

I wasn't aware we need to have the ds230 form also for Manila Embassy. We are doing the K1 visa. I didn't even see it mentioned on the manila required documents. Am I confused here?
