Hi there!

My interview date is approaching and I read that many people bring their utility bills in, although they are not officially requested on the invitation letter or the document checklist. In fact, my husband's name only is on all our utility bills (although I'm the one who signs all the checks with payments). Did anybody have troubles because their name was not on the utility bills? What do you do in such cases?

Thank you so much!

Do you have duplicate cheques or can you get copies of the cancelled cheques from the bank? That way it shows the utility bill in your husband's name but the payment signed by you - nice evidence.

I don't have utility bills either - they are all in my husband's name plus we pay them online - not even a paper document. I expect I will have enough evidence, however, to show co-mingled assets and liabilities. If they really have serious questions about the validity of our marriage I'm going to refer him to the 3 1/2 pounds of documents I submitted for the ROC that will be in the file on his/her desk!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks, guys. I guess, I'll bring the monthly statements from our bank which include copies of those cashed checks with my signature on them. But overall, I just don't understand why they are required if it's not officially stated anywhere.

Apart from that, I'm just going to bring all the documents that are on the checklist plus our leases to confirm the joint residence.

Isn't the interview letter asking you for proof of martial union?

Some oficers like to to have a good coverrage for all the years of your marriage

So it all depends how much you submited with the lifting conditions paperwork

if at that time you send documents for the prior 2 years, thay may only ask for some recent stuff

if you only submited recent documents at lifting then they may even ask you for stuff from 2006 & 2007 (I had that, Tini27 had too)

also I never submited something for joint residence (husbands apartment) and the oficer was asking why :)

I think that we will bring our two sons, ages 4 years 3 months and 15 months. Show them their birth certificates and smile! Their middle names are their moms maiden name. Ha Ha

Will I have to bring documents for past 3 years to proof my marrige?

I married for almost 6 years to US citizen, got my GC atrer two years of batlle with them. I got a permanent resident card right away after waiting for that long (never had to apply form I-751). So they don't have any document since then.

Ah, let me think for a second.

Proof of LPR and USC, her ten year card, my birth certificate, her foreign passport as proof of her dates for our trips outside of the country. Document showing our marriage was registered in her home country.

Marriage: Marriage certificate, hers and my divorce papers, again.

Taxes: Four years of joint returns with 1099's and wage statements, joint property taxes.

Joint ownership: Home deed, pedigree dog, and vehicle titles, we had no proof that we jointly owned our toaster.

Banks: statements of our joint CD's, savings accounts, and two checking accounts.

Insurance: Joint home, auto, health, dental, and life insurance policies.

Miscellaneous: copies of our drivers' license showing the same address and our joint electrical utility bill that I got at the last minute, very poor evidence I agree, but her IO wanted to see that. Could take her to court, but why fight it, was just a phone call for us.

Think that was it, could check my files.
