True story -

I am not sure where my husband encountered this fellow but he had a rather unique version of how the dinosaurs became extinct. This fellow had read that the moon is moving away from the earth by so many inches a year in its orbit. He used this figure and calculated backwards and determined that at the time of the dinosaurs the moon was so close to the earth that when it orbited it would hit them on the head, killing them instantly - thus leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Seriously - this guy really believed it and kept trying to convince anyone he talked to that this is what happened.

People believe all kinds of weird #######. Just look at the people who think that 9/11 was an inside job, or that the President wasn't born on US soil

So wouldn't the moon have been even closer to the earth before they were born, thus killing their parents before they were born.

Generously, in biblical terms, the earth is just 40,000 years old... Hmmmm to believe science or the bible....

I thought it was 4,000 yearsw old.

In reality the Bible doesn't say how old. The 4000 year figure comes from a bishop named James Ussher who took the genealogy in the old testament and calculated the earth was created in 4002 BC.

I was raised in a fundamental Christian family. I can remember my father telling me that the fossils were put there by Satan to deceive us. If course I don't believe that but there are many that would rather trust the Bible than science. A lot of people, including my father, now accept that Genesis is just a parable told to explain something that early man couldn't explain. Most of us now believe, including myself, that the earth is billions of years old. We still believe that God created the universe, just that He did it via the Big Bang billions of years ago.

The difference is there's plenty of heat on the "birthers" in the mass media and there's been very little anti-"911-inside job" coverage in the last eight years.

I like to discuss how creationism explain the geography of earth. They believe that the mountains existed already without having to evolve from tectonic shifting.
