Yes...costs and visas were a similar problem for us. That is why we are doing 2 events. We haven't decided if we are doing a second wedding or not, but we WILL at least do a second reception for my family once we finally get Katya here. At least SOMTHING for the family to be involved and feel welcome and included.

Now that things are better with Sujeet's family concerning our marriage, they want to plan some kind of thing in India when I go to meet them(don't know when that is yet). Not a ceremony, but a get together for relatives to meet me or something.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Well, we actually had three events....the first marriage ceremony in the UK to get the CR1 paperwork in the works, then we had a proper wedding (also in the UK...I felt that with him leaving family and home, we should at least have the big "do" over there), and then once he got here we had a real nice reception cruise for my family and friends. I wouldn't change much about how we did it. What I CAN say about the advantage to having the second "do" is that for me, a lot of the jitters about getting married were gone because we already were married. I was able to enjoy myself I think a whole lot more. Sure there were regular wedding jitters of pulling off a wedding that was planned from 4000 miles away, but we didn't go through all of the other...EEEEK, I'm getting married stuff! hehehe.

ANd the absolute BEST part of having three events is just that...we had THREE parties and we celebrate them ALL !!!! :luv:

Well, I do want to go back to India a couple more times, but not live there. We are moving to California a while after we get married. And we do compromise on lots of things.

It sounds like you are going back and forth on the whole ceremony thing so my advice is to make the first one include those things you both would regret not having to the greatest extent possible. That way if you end up having a bigger wedding at some stage, great! but if not, you will have less regrets. If there is something that can be done in this one despite all the restrictions visa requirements place on you, do it!

If I had realized we wouldn't be all about the second wedding just a few months later there are many little things I would have done to enhance the original wedding and for the most part, my reasons for wanting a second wedding now would be non existant. Good luck!

What's wrong with just having a vow renewal later on - like on your 5th anniversary or something?

Hey, I wore a gown and we had a cake. I had a real preacher instead of a legal officiant. We did some of the traditions like a bouquet, a meal for those in attendance (all 9 of us) and we spent some change on nice rings.

But what's with all the fuss about weddings anyway? I never have gotten that..........

As of right now, Ryan and I have decided to exchange rings and say our vows at the first "wedding" (courthouse marriage), then on our one year anniversary, say the vows with add ons or not, and do the whole "re-enactment" wedding, but bigger and better. And with EVERYONE we want there. I am changing my last name the first time around though.

You know. I think that sounds like a great idea! Go with it. And it will REALLY take a load off of Ryan to not have to worry about what to get you for a 1st anniversary gift.

Seriously it is one of the things (several things on our list) that Katya and I are thinking about doing too.

Hey now, that's not fair. What about my end of the "anniversary gift"? ;)

I was just stressing over it, like I do MANY things. But everything is fine now. We have moved onto other issues to stress over. LOL! Like mentioned in the "fighting" thread. I guess it's just that not being together makes EVERYTHING seem next to impossible, but in the end, we settle it, and move on. And we become more loving that way. He does consider what I want as well. He's a great guy. One of a kind. I'm sure, no matter what we decide, in the end, for "wedding plans" we will both be happy. And as always, even more IN LOVE!

You know...we felt the exact same way leading up to the whole to-do the second time around. When it came down to it and the day approached, though, we both got caught up in the sheer fun (and stress!) of it all. I nearly had a heart attack walking down the aisle even though I'd done it before, I cried during my vows, and we wound up havnig such a lovely time I really, honestly can say I would have regretted it sorely had we not goine through with it.
