He caught on fire because he was huffing gasoline....

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Whoa.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Tim's good friends with one of the city cops, who told us that happened to them once. It was because they (the cops) had to use pepper spray on a guy that was very strung out on drugs. Back then, the spray had an alcohol base. They had to taser him too and whoooosh....Pepper spray apparently is now water based...

Stupid cops.

You go running at a officer with a lighter and gas odds are not in your favor. Stupid Ronald Mitchell!

Concur, I would drop someone running at me with a can of gas and lighter in their hand...

Why put yourself in harms way when you have a taser gun?

They could have apprehended the man without lighting him on fire.

They didnt know he was going to catch fire, you act as if they meant too.

oh and the officer was the one that put the fire out as the sister was throwing rocks at him.

I seriously doubt they thought he would "set on fire" when they attempted to subdue him.

Other than using the taser, how could they of stopped him without endangering themselves or others?

Shoot him? Hand to hand (with nightstick)?

Guy had a weapon (container of gas with a source of ignition) - perp charged at the cops - the cops acted properly in this case IMO.

Perp was also hopped up on gasoline fumes - so = crazy.

IMO, the taser is being overused and abusive by law enforcement in general. I know it's sh!tty that cops have to sometimes wrestle unruly people to the ground, but even before the introduction of the taser, they have to follow a certain protocol to prevent abuse. It is hard job because someone may kick you, try to bite you, spit at you, but you are a representing the law and justice, not retaliation.

IMO I dont think its been overused and abused but not to say that it has never been abused but on a whole I would have to disagree.

Yes exactly, they found the mother ship.

Even crazy people deserve to be treated fairly. They should have grabbed the guy, and take away his gasoline. That would have been the appropriate response, IMO.
