There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore... and who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Are you asking if a person who is a co-sponsor can claim the person sponsored as a dependent on their taxes? Only if that person meets the standards set out by the IRS.

Simple answer: No.

You are confusing everyone because you're posting in the K1 forum, when actually, you have applied to adjust status.

Moving to correct forum.

I admit, I'm still confused even after knowing what stage of the process you're in. A 'joint sponsor' on a tax return?? Huh??

Or are you talking about form I 864, which is filed at this stage and in which you can use a joint sponsor?

You can file a joint return...wives/husbands typically are not dependents. Its helps to get a SS and you'll need to write a signed statement that you wish you be considered a US resident for tax purposes.

Maybe its best to start at the beginning. Where are you exactly in the process of adjustment of status? And regarding taxes are you referring to the 2009 tax year to be filed next year?
