plane ticket for me question

This isn't the typical question about whether I should get my fiancee an one way or round trip ticket. I will definitely get my fiancee an one way ticket. How about me? I know I should get a round trip ticket, but do you think I can get a ticket for my fiancee to leave on the same day, same flight, and seated next to me? Usually in the past, I just buy a round trip ticket and didn't have to change anything. So I'm not sure about the process. If they can't find my fiancee to fly with me on the same day, same flight, and seat, what do I do, change the date of departure? Can that be done? Anyone that have done this please let me know. I searched and all I could find were people asking if they should get an one way or round trip ticket for the K1 visa receiver. I didn't find anything on the petitioner and their flight plans.

Mike,

Check out Eva for an open ended ticket.. they have some great rates at the moment.. then when you want to return call them and select your flight based on what you can book for her to be with you... you can call eva and they can help... only catch is that they dont service all airports so you may need connecting flight from your city,

I had no problem doing this a few years ago, I booked a RT for me, and then booked a one-way for my wife on the same flights and in the seat next to mine on my return trip.

Did it all on-line on United.com.

The gate agent or the booking office can arrange the seating.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will go ask a travel agent and see what's best. I remembered I talked to a friend who said that even if you buy a round trip ticket with a return date, you can change that return date. I think you could change but you will be charged a fee.

This can certainly be done. I purchased a ticket for my wife in Ho Chi Minh with as little as 1 week notice and got her a ticket for the same flight and seat. Just remember that most airline tickets are non-refundable.

Best of luck

Generally speaking airlines have different class of tickets... Y,M,B,K, etc... the Y M B K are generally changeable with minimal or no charge. They are also more expensive up front. The gate agent can help on the sitting together but if the plane is full they can't help, so you just ask the person sitting next to you or your SO if they would mind changing seats so that you 2 can sit together. (I just had to do this last week) People are generally very nice when you ask them to switch. Hope this helps

Thanks again for the replies. I got another question that is also about plane tickets. I was wondering if the both of us can go to Hong Kong for a week? I figured since I'm going back to get her, I might as well go visit my uncles and aunt over in Hong Kong. Should I buy my round trip ticket with the intent of staying in Hong Kong for a week? I wonder can I maybe stay in Vietnam for about 3 weeks and then go to Hong Kong for 1 week or if it's possible two weeks in VN and two weeks in HK? Do they let K1 visa holder to go to another place first or do they have to come straight to the U.S. without stopping anywhere else? Do they allow for her to get an one way ticket that stop in HK for 1-2 weeks before coming to the U.S.?
