My wife just applied for an AOS and everything is currently pending. We are badly in need of a vacation and we were thinking of taking a cruise to the Bahamas or Mexico, but with the recent changes to the passport laws and the fact her status is still pending, would we be safe to go or would it be considered abandonment. We applied for an advanced parol so she could travel to her home country but we didn't know if we had to wait for it or of we could take our vacation. We also trie calling carnival and other compainies but no one knows. Can someone please help us?

AP needs to be in your hands and not just "applied for"... Don't leave home without it

YMMV

Definitely do NOT leave the US without the AP in hand - you have to have received it, not just applied for it. Cruises to the Bahamas and Mexico are out - they require leaving the US. There are many lovely places within the US where you could vacation as well without having to worry about passport and AP issues.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
