I sponsered my mother to come and live in the USA. She has had her interview and entered the USA, given the officer the brown envelope and we were told a GC would be on the way. Today we received a notice 0S155A this is a Welcome letter and says that her case is being dealt with and we will be informed withing 30 days. It says you can check the Texas service centre but theres no case of os155a on there to check there processing. Any clues what this is? Also no social security number has showed up, do they still give them out at the local offices?

thanks in advance

You got this wrong - OP sponsored her mom in and mom got in on IR-1 visa. Upon entry on POE she received the welcome notice - OS551 which means they are processing the papers from the mysterious brown envelope (registering the alien) and producing her GC. There is no more applications to be filled - except for N-400 5 yrs later.

If you read many threads when Parents, spouses or Children are sponsored and they may have checked the box for the Social Security card to come it does not, this is why it is suggested to go ahead and apply after a few weeks if it has not arrived. As far as the OSI yes they are processing the case your GC for your mom should come about a month after POE as has been the trend. Maybe with the delay on card prodcution this may be a factor as to when the card will actually arrive.

Tell mom Welcome to the US of A

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!
