Wow...so many new babies.....CONGRATS TO ALL Parents-To-Be!

Somebody asked about dual-citizensip.......wel my two kiddos have American and Slovenian....they got American automaticaly cause they were born here and Slovenian by me. Not sure if its so simple with every country. I just translated their US birth certificates to Slovene and then it together with a form to Slovene embassy...they took care that my babies are registred in Slovene birth registry. After awhile I also got Slovene BC for them.

I have a question for you guys -- if you (the wife) is currently working, how much time do you plan to take off work when the baby is born?

When I interviewed I said that I would not take much time, 2 months at the most, (well I was very eager to get the job). But now I'm quietly panicking about it. 2 month old newborn!

What are your plans for work, staying at home, combining both?

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

I'm a student now and will be taking classes 2 days a week 4 weeks after the baby is born...but i have my sister to watch the baby.... When I had my son (12 years ago) I went back to work 8 weeks after he was born...again I had my sister to watch him....

I think standard maternity leave is 8 weeks...sometimes you can get a longer leave if you combine vacation time...

Because I have 2 children already I know that a newborn will be just fine in suitable care, but when I had my son (my first) I had a hard time leaving him even with my sister. I cried all the way to work every day for the first few weeks.

I can take 3 months off of my job, and will probably return after that.

I work for a VERY family friendly non-profit agency, so I could take the baby wih me at that point if I want, but not sure.

I have a good daycare provider for my kids now, so I would feel good leaving the baby with her.

Guess it'll be a wait and see kind of thing

Congrats Mojo and KC

I already put in three months notice at my job. I'm planning on working until May-ish (which i will be about six months pregnant by then) and then I'm going to be a stay at home mommy. I've always wanted to stay at home with my baby (babies) so hopefully it will work out financially. Plus, im starting to look into working from home on the net.....hoping to find something legitimate!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

Thank you guys for responding. The situation does not seem as dire.

Do any of you plan to invite relatives from your home country to watch over the baby? I already asked my mom, but she does not seem very willing. She’s taking care of my niece who’s 12, and feels reluctant to leave. Also, US visitor visas from Russia may not be easy to get.

Yeah. My mom will be around for a few weeks for sure. Nani's mom would love to come and help out as well but that visa is going to be an uphill battle. We'll put on a good poker face and give it shot hoping for the best. :D

Maternity leave is only 8 weeks in the US. That sucks :(

Not that I am having a baby. That just doesnt seem very long. They just passed a new law in Canada a few years ago. You get to take a year off when you have a baby now. Paid maternity for either the mother or father.

A correction to my post about my friend's labor...it WAS kind of long :( but she did ok!

Even though it's not a VJ baby,I thought that expectant parents might like "ooh" and "ahh"-ing this cute newborn!! We only saw her thru the observation window because when we went to the hospital she was getting bathed by a nurse and getting checked on. I'm not expecting but still I love looking at babies. Here's Elianna (L)
