Since, embassy and officers look for proofs of relationships and paperwork, and since we ourselves can be a BIG LIVING PROOF of the relationship to go and tell them in person, I think they should allow us to be present with our spouses during the interview? Any experience???????????? What u guys know about this? Will embassy allow the USC sponsor to go in with his/her spouse for the interview?

I know that they are allowed to carry any document and bags of paperwork with them, can they take their spouse too with them as a living proof?

What is the rule?

Is it different from one embassy to the other or same with all?

It must differ from one embassy to another. I have read on here that some were not in India. Try posting in the regional forum. Perhaps someone there will be able to tell you for your particular consulate.

I did not attend James' interview with him BUT my understanding of US embassies is that any US citizen has the right to at least enter it. So they may or may not let you go into the part of the building that they actually do the interview in, but I believe you will be allowed into the embassy at the very least and can be there for moral support and possibly to attend the interview. I would call the embassy in question to find out their specific rules

Jon my fiance did attend the interview with me but that was in London, it seems to differ from Embassy to Embassy, I've also been told that the USC has a right to entre the Embassy but may/may not attend the interview with you, a quick e-mail to the Embassy concerned will help clear this up. Good luck and best wishes.

From what I read some embassies will even interview the USC if present and even one embassy requires the USC to attend. The USC always has access to a U.S. embassy but may or may not be allowed to be involved in the interview process.

I think it does vary from country to country. In the case of Brazil, I was not only allowed in the building and to be present at the interview but also was sworn in at the same time and participated. However, my presence was not required.

I think I read that some places (Peru, I think) will not issue a visa unless you go and some countries try to keep the US citizen out of the interview (I read that in some cases the US citizen must wait outside - seems that would be a violation of a citizens right to enter the embassy though)....just depends on the country and perhaps even the CO doing the interview.

Thank you all for your kind answers and ideas. I think I will email the embassy and see what they will tell me.

But seriously, It is crazy on their part if they don't allow the USC sponsor in the interview.

Hi Bruce,

I wanted to thank you for all of your posts concerning your experiences with the process in Brazil. My wife has an interview in Rio on 4-26-06 and I am going to be there. Knowing that I can possibly sit in during the interview is awesome. Francisca is from a small town 2 days bus ride north of Rio and has never even ventured out of her town before. Me being there with her will be a big boost. I was curious, the consulate tells me she interviews on Wednesday and we can get the visa on Friday, was that your experience? What time of day was it available? I am actually planning on us flying home Friday night if we have the visa in hand.

Also, I found the Brazilian consulate to be very helpful in my email contacts . I had to re-schedule the original date of Francisca's interview due to conflicts with my work schedule, they were very friendly and helped me out .

Thanks again and bets wishes to everyone in this difficult process!

Mark and Francisca
