I have heard others say that you can send copies and in your cover letter state that originals will be presented at the interview. I sent the originals. I haven't heard anyone say things were lost, but maybe I'm just not reading the right posts.

Certified copy isn't Notarized copy. Say municipality of whichever city beneficiary belongs to issued the original birth certificate, beneficiary will have to go to the same governing body and they will issue a certified copy of the original. Here is my certified BC, you can get an idea.

or you could call them and ask if copies are sufficient for that particular country. for the country of russia, sending a copy of both BC and MC of the original are sufficient. this is what they told when i called the NVC. however, once i get to that stage, i'll know for sure if i receive a RFE
