A "little" self absorbed. My God man - I've never heard anything like it. That guy blows his trumpet every chance he gets - only person worse than him for that is Donald Trump!

Savage has approx 8-10 million listeners I believe. That of course says nothing of the quality of the programming.

Savage is hardly alone. Most people who're celebrities (in some form or another) are exceedingly self-absorbed.

Have you listened to his show?

He goes on about how marvellous and well-respected he is, how wonderful his books are etc etc etc.

What happened to humility?

Actually, I have listened to his show. It wasn't that entertaining. I prefer Coast-to-Coast AM. :D

Savage may be an egotistical blowhard, but it's HIS radio show. He gets paid for national airtime, in which people listen and call in. Of course he'll be full of himself.

As I said before, he's like any other successful celebrity. In fact... forget the "celebrity" part -- anyone who's been largely successful eventually gains something of an ego. Maybe not one as huge as those in Hollywood (or Savage himself), but humility is rare no matter where you go.

Right. But relativising it doesnt make it less objectionable, you know...

Humility is an attractive trait, I work on that myself.

I'm now so humble... I'm proud of it.

She resigned because of the expenses scandal, which is far bigger news over there than an obscure radio DJ listened to by 3% of the US population (generous estimate)

True he doesn't have the number of listeners Rush enjoys but come on dude...very few Radio talking heads can claim the numbers Savage has.

As an example, what percentage of the US population listens to the highest Left-wing radio personality?

If Savage is "Obscure" ... what does that make them?

But yet, we always hear the argument about how the rest of the mainstream media is "liberal." And the combined audience of news on CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, etc positively dwarfs the combined audience of Fox and right wing radio audiences.

I challenge you to go comb through the British media (Telegraph, Guardian, Sun, Times, Daily Mail, BBC online, Mirror, Independent) and then get back to me about how many column inchese are devoted to Jacqui Smith's expenses versus the Michael Savage story and see if his argument that its all about him still stands.

What is and what's "objectionable" is dependent on the individual. While you may think Savage's antics are "objectionable," others may not. There's no one definition for what is and isn't "objectionable."

 DPX - if you have a point, please make it. Otherwise do stop dancing around trying to explain concepts that are common-sense and self-evident.

I am well aware of subjectivity and differences of opinion.

I'm not dancing around anything. I merely find the notion ludicrous that someone thinks there is a definitive concept of what is and what isn't objectionable.

I'm sure you believe your statements are common sense and self-evident. So did Hitler, only he was far more intelligent (and charismatic) than you.

I get so tired of the pompous idiots on this board, most of whom pretend they actually know something or that their ideas matter to anyone but themselves. I guess I shouldn't expect more from this hellhole.

I take subjectivity as a given (i.e. an axiom) - I never laid claim to absolute truth. That's your assumption entirely.

If my opinion were "truth", then Savage would have no listeners at all!

Should we make a bet as to whether or not I actually believe that to be the case?

Oh, yes...that Adolf was such a smart guy! It reminds me of a punch line to a joke.

Just when I thought I'd seen everything on VJ...

why does england hate free speech?

Maybe it's for the same reason that the U.S. "hates" free speech. The U.S. denies visas to those they don't like.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt
