I cook all the time and I'm just curious what items other people consider their must haves.

For me, the basics are...Y peeler, chef's knife, paring knife, serrated knife, microplane, sturdy whisk, wooden spoons, cutting boards, and good pans with heavy bottoms for even cooking/heat distribution

pizza stone.

Can use it for everything - bread, rolls, and it keeps the oven toasty - less gas used.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Garlic press. We (actually more she than me) used to dice up the garlic and brown it in a skillet until one day, after watching Rachel Ray recommend a garlic press - brings out more of the flavor and healthier than browning the garlic in oil.

Those do come in handy. Do you use garlic often? My press turned into a toy for play-doh a few months ago
