I am a 10-year green card holder and have been thinking about bringing my parents here. Many of you probably have seen or heard of my husband jasman0717.

Can I bring my parents from the Philippines to live as a green card holder or do I need to file for citizenship?

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Thr process is longer when a LPR files to bring parents. The advice that I have seen here on VJ is to begin the process now and upgrade the case when you gain citizenship. There is some good starter info in the VJ Wiki.

A LPR can NOT file for a parent you have to be a US Citizen.. Once you are a US Citizen you need to file form I-130 to start the process.

It will take anything from a 4 months to 12 months + for them to get the visa to move to the US.

See my timeline below for my parents journey.

WRONG.

From the USCIS website, http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Petitioning Procedures: Bringing a Parent to Live in the United States

This information is for U.S. citizens who wish to petition for or “sponsor” their alien parent(s) to live permanently in the U.S. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to petition for their parent(s). A U.S. Citizen must be at least 21 years of age to petition for a parent. Lawful Permanent Residents may not bring their parents to live permanently in the U.S.

YOU ARE SO WRONG WITH THIS INFORMATION.

1. She needs to be a US Citizen before she can file I-130 for her parents.

2. If parents enter the USA on a tourist visa with the intent to use a tourist visa to get around having to file the I-130 and they plan to remain in the USA and file for AOS, THEY WILL BE COMMITTING VISA FRAUD. They could end up being banned for life for misrepresentation.

the visa bulletin is not the source for the information... look to the I-130 instrusctions under WHO MAY FILE

Who May File Form I-130?

1. If you are a U.S.citizen you must file a separate Form I-130 for each eligible relative. You may file a Form I-130 for:

A. Your husband or wife;

B. Your unmarried child under age 21;

C. Your unmarried son or daughter age 21 or older;

D. Your married son or daughter of any age;

E. Your brother(s) or sister(s) (you must be age 21 or older);

F. Your mother or father (you must be age 21 or older).

2. If you are a lawful permanent resident of United States, you may file this form for:

A. Your husband or wife;

B. Your unmarried child under age 21;

C. Your unmarried son or daughter age 21 or older.

Thank you all for the information. I was reading the visa bulletin and it doesn't specifically refer to parents of a US citizen or LPR. Is there a special reference for parents?

Parents of US citizens are Immediate Relatives and there is no visa limits. The visa bulletin is only for those categories with visa limits.

To simplify - parents of USC do not have to go on a wait list for visas. Only those who have to go on a wait list for a visa are listed in the visa bulletin.
