I just got quick question. Can a beneficiary renew the CR1 visa after it expires in 6 months at the embassy to travel to the US?

Sometimes you can ask for extension from the Consulate prior to 6 months time period expires. But if you don't notify Consulate and don't use your Visa within the 6 month time frame, no you can't renew it.

On side note-- since its CR-1, you can always come to US, live for a couple of days and go back to your country or wherever for a few months or so.

So, what you are saying is that it is the consulate discretion to renew or to grant an extension for CR1 visa. But, if it is IR1 visa, you would get an extension for the visa, am I correct? Thanks a lot.

both IR1 or CR-1 have validity of 6 months ...u can ask for extension if u have reasons by contacting the embassy ..

if its expired ..then theres no way to do that really

OR , if the CR1 or the IR1 didnt expire yet ..u can enter the united states and have the I-551 stamp which can work as multiply Entry Visa till u have ur green card ..or u can enter the us ..wait for 2-4 weeks ..till u receive the GC then back to ur country and later enter the US again wzout the need of any visa from consulate

Good Luck

I understand where you are coming from. What I have in mind is that my wife got her visa on May 12/09 and the visa expires on or around Nov. 12/09. Our two year anniversary is on Nov. 24/09, and it would be nice for her to land in the US after Nov. 24/09 to get a 10 years GC and not go through adjustment of status and such. She has to stay there for about 4 or 5 months anyway to finish her nursing school. That is the reason I asked about the visa renewal or extension. Thanks.

I doubt consulate would grant extension in your case, its not an emergency or medical requirement or things as such, what you are looking for is easing the immigration situation for yourself. May be its better to bite the bullet and come before Visa expires. You will only have to fill up forms for removing conditional residency, you won't be paying no more.

I thought there's a $465 filing fee (+$80 biometric service fee) for the I-751?

Hmmm I guess I am wrong then, I take back what I said about not paying anything. I am not sure why I had it in my mind that CR-1 couples just fill up forms. Apologise again for the misunderstanding, clearly I have no idea as I am IR-1.

Hopefully people who did the IR-1/CR1 can shed more light, but I was wondering what date would be on her green card? Would it be the date she entered the US as listed on her I-94? Or is it a later date when the green card is officially approved by USCIS?

The "green card" has already been approved when your visa is approved. However, it does not become active until you enter the US and it is endorsed. That becomes your temporary "green card" until you receive the actual card. So I would assume the date it is endorsed would be the date.
