That is great news that you guys are working through it. I've been told that marriage is one of the hardest jobs...yet very rewarding. I'm glad you realized to put your husband FIRST. I know it must be hard to turn down friends when they are in need of help, but if it means interfering in any way with your marriage, you can't do it. I give you lots of credit for that  .

I, along with some other VJ'ers don't live in/near Texas, but I'm sure he'll find someone/something to help him adjust.

Good luck!

Find a comic book store, there's usually geeks at a table in the back playing RPGs of some sort. If not, ask the shop owner/manager/geek behind the counter, they'll probably know of a few gamers and how/where to get involved.

At the very least, he can pick up a few comics :)

Congrats to you for being so supportive to your husband!!!!!!!! It definitely is a hard journey. After I was so close to getting my visa, I pretty much melted down to my husband and just said "I've been feeling so homesick lately! I love it here in Maryland, but I know it's going to be hard living farther away...." so he was very, very understanding and we make sure we talk a lot about it. It may seem like life will be all cheery & wonderful when the visa is all approved, but it's definitely a large process when you move to a really new area. We Canadians love the U.S., but it's a different life :) and an adjustment! Keep talking about it. I've heard that it takes around 2 years to "fully adjust" and feel at home in a new area. So keep on truckin!!! You guys will do great.

To all you American spouses out there, thanks for being supportive of us Canadians :)

CRH I am so proud of you. You did the right thing in not taking in your friend and I dont mean it in a bad way. A decision like that is not your s alone but your husband's as well and right now as new married couple you need to be spending time getting to know each other. You did not leave her homeless but did the right thing by sending her to her grandmother. You cannot go fixing everyone and neglect your life.

I am very very proud of you. May you and Sean have a long and lasting relationship.

Thats great news Ruby! I agree with Reba on telling him to go find all the comic shops he can in the area. We " comic geeks" love to hang out and talk about all the different stuff we are into. It would definitely help him out and he'd for sure find some friends there with the same interests.

Such wonderful news CRH!!!! I'm so happy for you both. Keep on the right track!! I'm sorry that I too won't be in Texas, ( actually not even living in the States yet...lol) but I know that your husband will soon find friends.

One thing I talked with Tim when he asked me to marry him is that I knew at some point I probably will get very emotionally homesick. And when that happens, I'm going to need his understanding. He has a great family, and I've made friends there already, but I know it will take some time to properly adjust.

Best wishes for you and your husband.

It's always nice to see a happy ending!

Thanks for the connect2canada info guys, I looked up a Canadian group in Philly and they are having a Canada Day BBQ! :D

Cool Jill!! Have a great time!!

Happy to hear it! Good luck, ruby!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Maybe I missed it posted somewhere above.....gamers love to play games? Are we talking video games I assume - there's nothing antisocial about it, although it is different from those who crave actual face-to-face contact with people.

As a gamer myself, I would recommend that he continue playing whatever he plays (there's a WoW thread or two on here which unites folks who play the same game)....but gaming exclusively will not get him out and about so he'll need to mix that in with real life stuff! I've seen a lot of nice posts from the US citizens here whose families really tke the new spouse under their wing and socialize with them - what a nice way to get to know them, and get out!

It is so tough sometimes when moving here, Sean will notice month to month that some weeks seem pretty good, but some are fraught with homesickness - he should try posting in the Cdn forum as well!
