My wife's AOS got approved on 5/5 and greencard suppose to come in 3 weeks (most people received in 2 weeks).

Geencard has not come yet and my wife need to travel next week 5/29 and she didn't get I551 stamp at the AOS interview. We thought GC should arrive shortly and there is no need to get a stamp. Untill then, we don't have to get plan ticket until GC arrives. What should we do now? If she wants to go get stamped (i551), does she need to buy plane ticket first to prove her travel plan? what's our option? THanks.

You can always make an Infopass and ask for the stamp.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Your wife is not the only one in this situation (application approved, no stamp, no card yet in more than 3 weeks), maybe this is a new pattern/delays along the card delivery channel. I too have not yet received the card (ordered as of May 1st). I called the USCIS and the operator read to me what's the status of the application, and that 30 days might pass from approval to receipt of the card (that's what's printed on USCIS website, although the NOA says 3 weeks). I would suggest calling USCIS and ask about it, and scheduling an Infopass (sometimes Infopass slots are not that easy to come by in due time).

It is never wise to make travel plans before you have required travel documents in hand. (ie: AP or green card).

Make an INFOPASS appointment, they *might* give her a stamp, but if the status of her case is "card processing" they likely won't give her the stamp, they'll just tell you to wait for the mail.

I was approved May 6 and also received my letter soon thereafter saying that the card was in production.

Now it is May 29 and I am travelling in 3 weeks, and today the USCIS website says they are having delays with the GREENCARD productions of up to 8 weeks!!! Now what to do?

Now you make an infopass appointment and get the I-551 stamp placed in your passport. It is the same as having a green card and will allow you to travel and return to the US. You can make the appointment at http://www.uscis.gov - go to the right hand column and select 'Schedule an Appointment", then follow the instructions. Bring proof of your travel arrangements with you to the appointment for added emphasis.

USCIS have an announcement on their website saying card production will be delayed for upto 8 weeks. They also say you can make an infopass appointment to have your passport stamped. Once it is stamped, you can travel.
