I'm wondering out of curiosity what happens to the AOS, EAD and Advance Parole forms after they arrive in Chicago. Does the Chicago office review them, or do they forward them on to district offices for processing? I've heard that I-131's go to Nebraska. Thanks in advance!

I have read in other posts, that the Chicago office scans forms into the computer and forwards the files to the appropriate office.

The Chicago Lockbox is the receiving station for the National Benefits Center in Missouri. The NBC processes I-131 and I-765 to completion, and pre-processes I-485 before sending them to the DOs or the CSC for completion.

Good question.

If the case is clearly not approvable the NBC may well have the authority to deny it. But I would think that something so clear-cut would be rare. More likely the application may be questionable and the NBC would either issue an RFE for more evidence or forward the case to the DO or SO, depending on what the issue is and how best to resolve it.

If the NBC thinks that the case is clearly approvable to the extent that an interview is not needed it will send the case to the CSC for review. If the CSC agrees it will approve the case without interview. If the CSC disagrees it will send the case back.

"What is the Lockbox?

The NBC receives Forms submitted by applicants from the Lockbox. In general, a lockbox is a post office box used by organizations to accelerate the collection of receivables. In the case of the NBC, the Lockbox is used to accelerate these receivables (which are applications and petitions) by electronically capturing data and images from these Forms and by performing fee receipting and fee deposit. USCIS employees oversee Lockbox operations and perform case resolution activities on cases processed at the Lockbox. Cases are reviewed at the Lockbox for basic information only, including the completion of the following items:

* Basic biographical information

* Signature on the Form

* Jurisdiction of the submitted Form

* Correct fee

* Basic Eligibility (including visa availability) of applicant"
