They say "every dark cloud has a silver lining" (no pun intended).

For me "race" means almost nothing in who I would vote for, it's all about where they stand on issues and their track record.

I don't think any fair person could deny that Blacks voted for Obama for one reason.... HE Is Black!

I will admit, I underestimated how personally important this was for our Black citizens.

I am in Black homes on a weekly basis and I can tell you, there is not a one I go into where a framed photo of Obama is not on display.

If the election of Obama somehow helps destroy this myth that sizable numbers of Americans (whites) are blinded by racism than I suppose something good "can" come from the Obama years.

The only sober consideration is, (according to the survey) like 80% of Blacks actually believe the press is harder on Obama than past Presidents.

With absurdity like that.... I'm afraid it would not take much to erase any movement forward.

very interesting. i am black, and did not vote for Obama, so does that make me any less black? i don't think so! i don't like certain views he holds, so it is my prerogative to vote how i please. not saying i did not endure ridicule, but oh well!

It certainly does not make you less black but it does make you rare :)

I believe Black Americans voted in an astounding block of 95% for the same candidate (obama)

I think the only more solid voting block is Black women, they vote even more consistently alike (at least in Presidential elections).

Anyway, I salute you!

 thanks for your support  Never was one to follow the crowd ;)

Can you cite that statistic?

Thanks for pointing out my mistype, my source was from the orig posting (above) and the number was actually something like;

50% of Blacks feel the media is harder on Obama while 15% believe harder.

With whites it's the opposite.

50% of whites think he has it easier with the press and 15% believe the media is harder.

Again, thanks for pointing out my error.

Personally, with the historic nature of this election - 45 yrs. from Voting Rights Act being signed - I don't see your point with this thread rather than to further your right-wing agenda.

Nothing wrong with furthering the right-wing agenda, Lord knows we have plenty working to further the Left-wing side of things.

I simply dealt with (or quoted) the original poster, if you have a problem with the subject, take it up with Him/her.

PS: We agree it was a "historic Election"...... on two counts 1. A Black American was elected 2. It the first time in -anyones memory- that a man with so little experience got elected.

CBS is a right-wing source?

How so you explain better race relations in the last 10 months without attributing it to the election of Obama? Again, what other event happened to change the perspective of black Americans so dramatically?

Re the bolden part. They didn't vote for Barry just because he's Black, but because he's Black and a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT. Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Condi Rice, Michael Steele and other Blacks who made historic racial breakthroughs aren't exactly held out as role models just because they are Blacks with power and influence. They are often regarded as handkerchief heads because they are conservative. Liberal culture underserves Blacks because it validates the idea that they should all think alike, and not be politically conservative.

BTW, I don't know any Black people with pictures of Barry at home, but I know lots of Whites who display his pics proudly.

As usual you make a outstanding point!

Perhaps I will make a "photo of a photo" next time I see Ole Barry on someones wall and post it for grins and giggles.

Danno,

Sorry for jumping on your case. Whenever I read something with an anti-African American slant coming from someone with ties to Russia, I immediately dismiss that person as being Racist. On the Baltic from Aaland to Finland, I was faced down by three Neo-Nazi Skinheads who were headed to the next stop on that ferry - St. Petersburg, Russia. I read all of the bad news about Russia being this new gathering place for Neo-Nazi extremists, and having being affected by it first-hand (on the ship 3 summers ago), I figured you were "one of them." By acknowledging the above historic criteria, I realize you are a thinking member of humanity and not a bigot. My appologies.
