Regarding copies of Birth and Marriage Certificates

For the I-130 package do the copies of the birth and marriage certificates need to be CERTIFIED copies? The kind you go and pay for from the clerk of deeds? Or, by chance, is it okay to have a photocopy? I see that my marriage certificate says not to copy on it, so I imagine it should be certified. And will I get any of the certificates back?

As well, in the IR/CR-1 guide it says to make yourself a complete copy of the package you send, I imagine it would be fine for the certificates to be photocopies because they're for personal use, correct?

Just simple copies of it will be enough. SAve certifies and originals for ur DS-230

wel all stuffs we sent for our I-130 where simple copies even the affidavit of bonafide marriage and we didnt have any RFE till now it went pretty fast torught CSC, all they ask is copies cuz u need to sent originals with ur IV package.

Since they arent to be used in any legal situation isn`t a fellony at all cuz u going to send originals soon enough to them; if u sending originals with ur I-130 u will no get it back, but ones u send with ur VI u can ask them after the interview.

Hi,

No need to send original or certified copy of marriage cert and birth cert along with I-130. Just like Driade said, keep the originals/certified copy of those docs for NVC stage (DS-230 form). Good luck

What lilies is saying is correct. You will need those originals (from the government office that issues them) when you send in your documents to the National Visa Center during the 2nd step of this process. NVC does not accept photocopies.

I think the warning isto making fake certifed copies not makeing photo copies, I sent photo copies of my certidicates and had no problems with it just make sure if they are not in english to get a certifed translation of them. You'll be ok with making photo copies of them no law brakeing there.

Photocopies are fine for USCIS keep originals/certified copies for later when they are needed for nvc/embassy.
