question about passport pictures

Hello, sorry to ask about this, but, i took new passport pictures to mail to my fiance but i noticed my image in them is too small, and the pic is rectangular shape. My fiance told me he took his pics already and it's square shape.... this is confusing me, in my country, the square ones are for visa. What are the dimensions of the pics, then? r they supposed to be rectangle or square?

we have had a similar problem.. The pictures we had taken here in the US were 2" x 2" square.. and I read somewhere that the pictures had to be within 30days old .. so we had to have them retaken to send in our package this week..

so we had them taken again when I was visiting him in germany a couple weeks ago.. and the dimensions for the pictures taken in germany were alot different.. rectangular. BUT the face was the same size as the ones we had taken in the US .. just the picture itself was smaller the borders were not as big.. (diminsion wise)

SO .. keeping our fingers crossed.. the ones we had taken in germany will be sufficient.. Idont' know how they deal with these pictures when the pictures are taken in europe as opposed to the US

We had the same problem. In Argentina, they usually take your picture with a digital camera and then crop it to THEIR correct dimensions. What my fiance did was to ask the photo place to give him a digital copy of the picture in a CD before they cropped it and then cropped it to the correct dimensions himself.

This sounds a little complicated, I know. Parece que todos los paises latinos hacen la misma cosa .

I bet if you go near the US Embassy you will find at least a few photo places that know how to take "american" passport photos.

If you print out that handy-dandy little guide up there and take it to your photographer, I bet they'll have no problem fitting the standards. I mean, they're still getting your money.

Yes, the Standard size for passport pics in Germany is rectangular. I took that little guide about howthey are supposed to look to the photographer, he took my (digital) pic and then sized it on the computer so it would exactly match the requirements. Perfect!!

For the petition you might get through with the rectangular, but for the visa itself I wouldn't take a chance.

By the way...at the consulate in Frankfurt (if that's what you are going through), they have those passport photo machines, in case your pics won't be what they look for...
