Questions Regarding the Affidavit of Support & NVC Process

Hi all,

So I just got off the phone with my congressman's representative regarding what I needed to do after I get an approval re my I-130. I am hoping to get this soon, if anything hopefully within the next 2 months...

So anyways, at this point I am going to see my husband in Syria and want to know what I need to do now before then (I leave Sunday).

What would I need to leave here re getting all this paperwork back to NVC?

The representative told me that proof of our relationship may or may not be requested at this stage...

She explained that I'd first need to get a letter called Choice of Agent, and send it back. I would need originals of my birth certificate, divorce paperwork, his original birth certificate, police record which needs to be notarized and translated, and so on....hope I'm getting this right so far.

Then, I'd get the Affidavit of Support, with which I'd submit my tax records and W2 (I am not working right now, but I'd have a joint sponsor in my brother, so this is not a big deal). Would these tax forms and what not need to be notarized?

Then, I'd get two documents, the DS-3032 and the DS-320, for which I'd need to pay around $400 for. I guess the online thing works out fine for me as I can pay for these things via the Net.

Then, hopefully I'd get an interview date.......

Now, my basic question is: what do I need to leave here with my brother so that when the time comes, he can just send all my stuff in along with this paperwork (he is going to Fedex everything I need to sign and then send back everything to NVC).

Is there anything that I'm missing? This process is really annoying and complex it seems...

I don't want to have to incur any extra costs as a result of this, hence my concerns.

If anyone can help me answer my questions, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot!

Kat

I know I asked some of this stuff before, but I want to be 100%. It's not the most greatest place to be able to get stuff back and forth, and quite costly to send via Fedex as well, so want to be pretty sure about everything.

Thanks again.

Yes - they will need that copy. (that is the turkish marriage certificate- ala "the book")

Also, sometimes they will accept the birth certificate (Turkish ones show if your married or not, and to whom). So your covered either way if you send both.

Anything in Turkish needs to be translated. You don't need it to notarized, just need a statement certifying that it is a 100% true copy/translation, as per the example in the guides.

All the documents we sent in were the actually certified copies (had the red stamps from the offices making them)(we made a few of each one), so we didn't have to worry about "copies" vs "originals".

Your tax forms do not need to be notarized. I would suggest you call the IRS and have them fax over your three years worth of tax returns. Then you have everything you need in one neat package. (both you and your co-sponsor should do this).

Good Luck!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

at this point it's going to be a bit annoying to get the aile cuzdani's certified copies in time, so i guess i'll go ahead and send the original. i'm assuming that we get our stuff back anyways at the end of this ordeal...right? or do these embassies/USCIS/NVC keep everything?

i could always get the book back again later...no? or a certified copy as you specify? thanks again bobby, im glad i got this info.

Hi Kat,

I know you wrote this ages ago, but I was wondering how you resolved your problem with the aile cuzdani. My husband and I are on our 2nd (!!!) RFE because they didn't like the photocopy of the aile cuzdani (which was good enough for USCIS). I'm not even sure what a certified copy IS, though Bobby+Umit make it sound like this is something we could get from the Turkish agency in charge of marriages (evlilik dairesi?). Did you end up sending the original? If so, did you get it back? I would just have my husband send our original, but I'm worried we may never get it back.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It's really helpful for those of us still struggling with these crazy people at NVC.
