People pay, on average, 1.9 times MORE attention to someone with a British accent here in the States. The average TV viewer only barely listens to adverts, but when they hear an accent, they instantly spark up. They can pay attention to a commercial for twice as long (about 3.5 seconds instead of less than 1) when casually watching the tube.

That's why Geico made the Gecko British. That, and their commercials totally ROCK!!! (The Cavemen!, New Clothes are FUN!, etc.)

Puppies, Babies, and for products aimed at men... gorgeous women, all sell. But, to make the point, why do you think the magic broom (or whatever it is) is sold by a British accented man? Becuase who the hell wants a magic broom... but once you hear the accent you're like "Wait a tic, that's a MAGIC broom!"

OMG I MISS THE GEICO COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!!!!! I love that lil guy. But he never spoke when I was still in America...GOD NOW I CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK..Just so I can hear the lil fella speak!!! lol

Oh wow! I love watching the Geico comericals! I've seen them on and off over the years everytime I've been over to the US for a holiday and I always miss them when I'm back in the UK. I noticed last year that the gekko was given a British accent, but I don't think I've heard his new cockney accent yet. Can't wait to see it! :D

:thumbs: Love the Gecko, gives me a bit of a british accent fix when I hear him. Kind of like having a good piece of chocolate, makes my worries go away for a bit. Long ago I told my hubby that we Americans love the accent, this commercial proves that. I wanna kiss that lil reptile on his head, he is so cute!
