Hello All,

Just thought I would provide an update on our N-400 interview yesterday. We passed first of all – which is great – but wanted to share the details with everyone. Our interview was in Philadelphia and scheduled for 11:20AM. We arrived around 10:45AM and didn’t have any trouble finding a parking spot on the street and just filling the meter with quarters. We went through security quickly and up to the 3rd floor waiting room. We spoke to a few other people that were also there for an N-400 interview that had been waiting for over an hour. Luckily they called our name at 11:35AM so only 15 minutes past our scheduled interview time. We both stood up and the office said he only needed my husband. So I had to sit in the waiting room. Twenty minutes later my husband came out and said he was approved. During the twenty minute interview the officer reviewed the N-400 form with my husband and reconfirmed that the information was accurate and that his answers were the same. He gave my husband a hard time at first because he didn’t remember if he had registered with selective service when he first entered the US (all men between ages 18 – 26 must do this) but we had a print out from the website showing he had been registered. He showed a copy of our mortgage which the office was pleased to see and actually kept one of our utility bills because we brought an original and the officer said he didn’t have a copy machine. For the test the officer’s computer randomly selects 10 civics questions. The officer stopped after 7 questions because my husband got them all right. The questions he remembers are:

- Who wrote the Declaration of Independence

- What was the United States concern during the cold war

- What is the United States economic system

- Name 3 of the 13 original colonies

- What are the two parts of Congress

- Who’s commander in chief of the army

He also asked my husband to write one sentence and read one sentence about government. After that he just told my husband that he had passed and that we would receive a letter in the mail with the date and time for the oath ceremony. My husband is changing his name so the officer told him that would be handled at the oath ceremony as well. He handed my husband a N-652 form with the officers name and a check mark saying he had passed the interview and test. He also told my husband that he was not a citizen until he took his oath. So after that we were done and out of there by 12:00PM.

Hi!

Today I had my citizenship interview. It was at the Jacksonville, FL office.

My appointment was at 9:10AM. I got there at 8:40. Got inside and my name got called at 9:15.

I walked inside the office. I swore to tell the truth. The officer was very nice :) He went over my applications. He asked me if I am still working for the same employer. Asked if I am still in school. He told me that he saw that I had a lot of paperwork with him but unfortunately he will not ask me for any of it because my file if very complete and they have everything they need. He asked to see my Green card and my passport. And then he asked me to write and read a sentence. I miss spelled ELECT. I spelled it as ELLECT :D but he said:"is this how you spell ELECT"? and i corrected it. HEY! I am used to typing and spell checker. :)

Anyway, he asked me 6 questions:

1. Who write declaration of independence?

2. Who is commander in chief?

3. One state that borders Mexico?

4. 3 Original states?

5. What are 2 major political parties?

6. What is presidents party?

He said I passed everything and that he will recommend me for approval. I asked him to take an oath now because I am starting a new Job and I cant take a day off right away. He apologized and told me he cannot help me. Only military people can take the oath on the same day. Oh well...

and that is it.

I am 99% done! :D

thank you all for the help and best luck!

-jd

Hello, thanks for asking. This is the situation: passed civic questions; a decison cannot yet be made; got form N-14 to submit more evidence (more marriage proof); sign on the pics. What you guys think of this? good or bad?

Hi N-400 - thanks for sharing your experience. Good job for passing the english/civics :) Hopefully if you submit more evidence, they will send approve it quickly. Can I ask what did you show the IO as evidence, and what more did they want to see? Did they want to see more recent evidence or all the way back to the beginning of the marriage? I'm applying based on 3 yrs marriage too. It's amazing to me with all that we submitted for I-751 that they can want to see more...

What is I-751. I didn't file this form. The officer didn't say whether the evidence needed to be recent or not. Evidence such as utility bills, credit card statement, bank, car insurance, purchase receipt, tax transcripts (even though he saw the tax return from a tax service), DL.... Have a month to submit these.

If the decision cannot yet be made , why did he have me sign on the passport-style pictures? Anybody knows?

What is I-751. I didn't file this form. The officer didn't say whether the evidence needed to be recent or not. Evidence such as utility bills, credit card statement, bank, car insurance, purchase receipt, tax transcripts (even though he saw the tax return from a tax service), DL.... Have a month to submit these.

If the decision cannot yet be made , why did he have me sign on the passport-style pictures? Anybody knows?

Sorry if I confused you N-400 - the I-751 is for people who had conditional greencard based on 2 years or less of marriage, to petition to have a 10 year card. We just got ours last year and I sent a big packet of papers for that.

So did you only show the officer tax returns? I guess he just needs to see more, and then he will approve your case (that's why he had you sign the pictures). It should be quite fast to get the transcripts (I think ours took about 10 days - free from the IRS) and you can put in the other stuff and send to him, and then I think you'll be approved quickly :star:
