Anyone have any suggestions as to which is faster? Is going ahead and getting married in Egypt then applying for the spouse visa or doing the K-1Fiance visa faster? So much info, I am just totally confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

K-1 is fastest but the beneficiary can not work for about 4 months. If that is a problem then the CR-1 is the way to go. check out the Immigration Timelines at the top of this page for comparison data.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

all else equal, fiance(e) would be faster because you can file it today rather than wait until after a wedding...

YMMV

Thank you! He is under the impression that in Egypt we need to marry first, but I have told him I have heard the K-1 is faster. Anyone coming from Egypt have any info? Thanks again!!!

Yes, because we can not marry in Egypt until 90 days after I am divorced. :(

I was looking at this, but not sure what I am supposed to look for. Under the statistics, it looks like the K1 and the K3 are about the same, am I looking at this correctly? Sorry to seem so ignorant, I am just feel so overwhelmed with all of this, as I am sure everyone does.

You might want to post your question in the regional forum - talk with someone who has done it already. I know with certain countries, it's very difficult to do K3, especially if the marriage takes place soon after meeting and/or soon after a divorce....

Best of luck!

Having observed visas through Cairo for 4 years now, I have not noticed a difference in time of k-1 vs. k-3 vs. IR/CR-1. When the embassy is slow, it is slow for everyone, be they applying for a fiance or a spousal visa. When things are moving along (not quickly, because things rarely move quickly through Cairo), it's moving along for everyone.

Every visa applicant through Cairo I've seen has had to experience processing after the visa interview. This is where the time really adds up. There it won't matter if you're a fiance or a spouse - they're still going to dig around in the egyptian's past, maybe pester family, friends and neighbors and do whatever else it is they do before they issue the visa.

10/14/05 - married AbuS in the US lovehusband.gif

02/23/08 - Filed for removal of conditions.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

12/07/08 - Adopted the fuzzy feline love of my life, my Squeaky baby th_catcrazy.gif

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

The timelines all begin on the filing date. According to your story, you can file the fiance petition either now or if not divorced yet, 90 days earlier than you can start a spouse visa process. On that basis the K1 reunites you sooner. However, that assumes K1 success through a tough consulates with at least the big red flag of filing soon after a divorce. A failed K1 followed by marriage and a successful spouse visa process has a far longer timeline to reuniting the couple than waiting until you can marry and take the spouse visa route.

In the real world today, CR1, not K3 is the preferred and more practical spouse visa path for nearly everybody.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
