you could probably make an infopass about this, but just keep calling them and speak to a supervisor...

Do you know if there's a direct number of someone I can speak to even if I don't have a case number on file yet?

Yes... It's probably only an hour drive from my location.. if that. I'd hope to atleast be able to work with someone in person... hopefully. I'm starting to think that my check was lost within the packet and they are putting my processing on hold because of it.

no published direct numbers for any office or service center... the only published number is the 1-800 for the call center

YMMV

If I remember correctly, I think it is a secure facility that does not accept visitors

I just set an appointment with a local office in san bernardino. Hopefully it'll help.

Was your check cashed? If it was - you should be in the system, and should be able to get your file number from the back of the check (I say "Should" because our case number was NOT on the back of the check).

Did you send it via a tracking service at USPS, or parcel service like Fedex or UPS? If so, verify if it was delivered by the tracking code.

If you sent it regular mail and your check wasn't cashed, I'd suggest just wait a bit longer. It may have been delayed in the mail.

It hasn't been cashed as of yet. I'm wondering if I should resubmit an entirely new packet.

I think your best bet is to call them.

is there a number I should contact to speak to a live person in regards to my direct file? It's been suggested that I start questioning an immigration attorney to aid me in petitioning my fiancee... would that even help?

I do not know why or how an attorney could help solve a USCIS receipting issue... just be aware... at this time of year the USCIS is innundated with H-1B applications and all other mail takes a back seat until they get through that process because those are very time sensitive..... while I-129f are not so much

YMMV

The same thing happened to us. We sent our petition waited a month, cheque was never cashed. You can't really talk to anyone because you're not in the system and they can't see your information. We sent them a letter no response, e-mailed, called etc. Just resend it (that's what we did)

I-751 file: 11/07/11

NOA1 date: 11/10/11

Biometrics: 11/30/11

Approval: 08/17/12

Hold what you got and maintain.

Wow! I just read your signature. First your original application was misplaced, and then they sent your case to Sydney instead of Vancouver? Dang, I feel for you, that is some back luck.

But I agree, there isn't much you can do. I heard a story of a couple who waited an entire year for their NO2 and made an infopass appointment just to be told their case was misplaced and there was no record of them in the computer. I know this is not the same situation, but it seems like if they lose your information its to the back of the line regardless of how or when it happened. If that's the case, making an infopass appointment isn't going to help your cause any. It can't hurt just resending the application.
