While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Obama plans to begin addressing the country’s immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

Mr. Obama will frame the new effort — likely to rouse passions on all sides of the highly divisive issue — as “policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system,” said the official, Cecilia Muñoz, deputy assistant to the president and director of intergovernmental affairs in the White House.

The White House is calculating that public support for fixing the immigration system, which is widely acknowledged to be broken, will outweigh opposition from voters who argue that immigrants take jobs from Americans. A groundswell among voters opposed to legal status for illegal immigrants led to the defeat in 2007 of a bipartisan immigration bill that was strongly supported by President George W. Bush.

Administration officials said that Mr. Obama’s plan would not add new workers to the American work force, but that it would recognize millions of illegal immigrants who have already been working here. Despite the deep recession, there is no evidence of any wholesale exodus of illegal immigrant workers, independent studies of census data show.

In broad outlines, officials said, the Obama administration favors legislation that would bring illegal immigrants into the legal system by recognizing that they violated the law, and imposing fines and other penalties to fit the offense. The legislation would seek to prevent future illegal immigration by strengthening border enforcement and cracking down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, while creating a national system for verifying the legal immigration status of new workers.

The people who do it legally will still suffer. The idea is to reward the law breakers and ** those of us who follow due proccess. This irritates me to no end.

Work-based is always in front of the line. Family-based is always in the back. Illegals with a history of work in this country will be legalized on the basis of ....... you guessed it.

A bill to grant in state tuition to illegals graduating from Colorado high schools was defeated in Colorado yesterday after citizens called in a wrote to express their opposition by the thousands. They were actually trying to hide the bill fro the voters! You should hear all the whining and moaning by politicians and fat cats who seem to believe they can pick and choose which laws to enforce. This kind of manuver is a gate way law to try to immunize the population by using fairness toward children break down resistance.

But, voters aren't stupid. They realize that their tax dollars fund the subsidy that provides the difference between in-state and out-of state tuition. They know that their college bound students would have to compete for limited slots with illegal students. They know that even military veterans who would like to attend universities in the state would not be granted the same privilege. And, what would these illegal college grads do with their sheepskins that the pols want them to hae so they will be productive "citizens"? Work illegally, of course, competing for scarce jobs along side legal residents.

This the foundation for preparing the workplace for more workers than needed, and preparing illegals for the time when they become legal. It's amazing to me how many politicians are becoming very brazen about promoting illegality for the sake of the businesses and ethnic special interest groups that funnel campaign funds to them. Our government is out of our hands UNLESS we begin to make ourselves forcefully heard, and vote wisely in consideration for the good of the entire country, not just what pork our district and state cull from the morass. At ths time, I'm convinced that few politicians will do what is right unless threatened with the loss of power.

What's the big deal? This is the same program Bush tried to get through Congress just before 9/11 made everyone forget about it. As far as work related, when the seventh largest economy in the world (California) is on the rocks, and the San Joaquin Valley can't get the water for crops this year, you watch. They will be an exodus of biblical proportions! Last couple of years, there was not enough farm workers to go around. The fence works. Now, they are all standing around, out of work, just like everybody else.

What's the big deal? This is the same program Bush tried to get through Congress just before 9/11 made everyone forget about it. As far as work related, when the seventh largest economy in the world (California) is on the rocks, and the San Joaquin Valley can't get the water for crops this year, you watch. They will be an exodus of biblical proportions! Last couple of years, there was not enough farm workers to go around. The fence works. Now, they are all standing around, out of work, just like everybody else.

It's funny you should say that because I am noticing a hell of a lot of people with CA and FL plates in my area.
