My husband has his heart set on giving his best friend here in Arkansas a bottle of Irish whiskey for his birthday. Not just any bottle- ie not a bottle of plain Jameson etc that could be bought here- but a special reserve from the brewery in Dublin. We have friends in Ireland who'd be willing to buy and ship it for us, but it seems alcohol cannot be shipped- neither Fedex nor UPS will take it according to their websites. We were thinking of having a friend bring it over when she flies to NYC soon, but it seems USPS won't ship alcohol domesitcally either.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

You can't ship alcohol via USPS - but Fedex for example does transport alcohol. You just have to declare it appropriately (wine will work).

The problem here is however that you say you want to ship the alcohol to Arkansas. Bad news because I think Arkansas is one of those states where Fedex will only ship to a licensed recipient. Friends of mine in Maryland have the same problem

Fedex only transports alcohol if you have a liquor license. I found out the hard way, when I shipped my boss (within the US shipping) a bottle of wine I got from a trip to Europe. The bottle busted, and Fedex called me threatening a $3K fine. They didn't seem to complain so much of he damage the red wine did, but about breaking the shipping laws.

a person entering the USA can bring a limited amount to alcohol/wine for personal consumption (2-3 liters i think)

YMMV

Unfortunately, we don;t have anyone visiting us from Ireland to Arkansas anytime soon. Guess I'll have to make friends with someone who has a liscensed business so we can ship the whiskey to them :P

You can only ship to certain states.

We have the strange situation here at work - our company also has a wine business and as employees we get discounts. However, since I work in Maryland we can't have it shipped here. I can have it shipped to my house in Virginia and I get more than enough request from coworkers who ask me to have wine shipped to my house so they can pick it up and bring it back home to Maryland. Weird...
