Hi I'm new here and am in the process of gathering all the documents need for the I-129F Fiance visa petition. My girlfriend is from Russia, St. Petersburg. Born in !973..her birth certificate says she was born in Leningrad, not Russia, not USSR but something like RFSSR (something like that) On the I-129F and 325G on birthplace what should I put Leninggrad and USSR or something else? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

The birth place you put on the G-325A should match the birthplace on her birth certificate. As far as country borders go though, I don't know!

Good luck!

Hello.

My wife has the same situation. Her city name changed (3 times since WW2) and also she was born in "Ukrainian SSR" Each Republic of the USSR was abbreviated by its name and SSR. It would be the same as saying "New York, USA" And abbreviating it "NYUSA". You will also see the name of her "region" which may be "Leningrad" as it is a big city. The USSR was divided into "Republics", "Oblasts" and "Regions" Roughly equivilent, in English to country, state, counties. When the forms ask for her "State or Province", that would be her Oblast.

Enter he birthplace exactly as it is on the birth certificate. Enter her address exactly as it is currently. No explanation is required.

My wife provides translation services for Russian and Ukrainian documents.
