I cannot STAND it when psychological issues are discussed in Off Topic. There are so many times that people post erroneous and damaging information. I feel this urge to step in, but then it makes it feel too much like work for me and I try to keep VJ separate. It just makes me want to scream though!!!

Wait a minute, so they aren't all Doctors who specialize in mental health in the OT forum?

I notice OT just aggrivates some people, and others just love to just piss off others and argue

LOL!!! No, they aren't doctors, they just play them on the OT.

Some of OT amuses me, but mental health is something that I am passionate about and it drives me nuts to read inaccurate information.

I find it really annoying as well. The funniest thing I ever responded to was a thread about sexual offenders, watching porn etc. That was my area of expertise, and someone who kept responding and challenging me was someone who wasn't a sex offender, but who has/had mental health issues. Just as annoying in my opinion. Anyway, I found I was spending way too much time responding to that thread. I thought I was imparting some information that the OP might find useful, well, anyone reading that thread my find useful. The other person challenged my information. I suggested they look on-line and find studies...I certainly didn't have time to quote sources of research for them to look into. They came back to the thread saying they did googled and there was little if any information and the things they read basically said I was full of #######. I ended up just leaving that thread and it died soon after. Sometimes I get so aggravated I have to reply, then I regret it.

I hear you autumnchik, and know where you're coming from. When I read some things like this in OT, I think of you! Don't you just think though that even if it helps ONE person it's worth it? I don't know....

I think it is Carla! In some of those threads you may only get the idiots and the loud mouths and the instigators - but perhaps someone who isn't going to post in a thread like that is reading it and maybe they will find help in what you say.

I had given up OT for the sake of my sanity but I had to go see what you all were talking about.

My best friend in University actually married someone that was diagnosed with disocciative identity disorder. Because of how rare it is and the controversy over it's exsistance, it was very hard to find someone to treat him. They had to drive for hours to his appointments.

To make life more complicated for them, my friend is bipolar 1 and doesn't take meds. I lost contact with her after she moved to Australia. One Thursday she called me to tell me that she wanted to move, the next Monday she got on a plane.

These diseases are pretty awful. It irritates me when people take them so lightly.

Yikes. Probably not best for someone with DID to marry at all, let alone marry someone that is bipolar. It is just a dangerous combination.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Carla when I first read your post, I thought you said watching porn was your area of expertise  Then I re-read what you said!! Anyhoo, I don't go into OT anymore just because the absolute rudeness and ignorance of some of those people disgust me. So I don't want to even bother anymore! I stick to my friendly Canadians instead!

The trick in the OT is to post and then just leave and not go back into the thread you've posted in. That way you're not arguing with morons... they just end up arguing with themselves. :P

I hate computer viruses and adware. :crying:

To look on the bright side, you now know that a lot of people like you and worry about you when we don't hear from you.

Malware just sucks. Us WoW players have learned to be extra paranoid since there is quite a bit of real world money involved in hacking our accounts and selling our characters virtual items.

You are right Carla, and that is why I venture into some of those threads. I just usually make the mistake of posting and then coming back to read it again. I need to listen to my girl Nev and just post and run! :)

Reason why I love having a mac. We just don't get viruses. :D

I stopped going into OT because it's like a bar room brawl in there. Sometimes I'm able to walk away without responding, but other times I can't stop the urge to correct misinformation. It drives me crazy sometimes.

Agreed. It is complete stupid in there. I only post when AJ post things about NJ because I know only a few people will answer. Most of the threads in there are uninformative and complete garbage any way.
