I spoke to Chris this morning, our lawyer has put together our case and on Thursday submitted it to the court people. Hopefully it will only take a couple of weeks to get it in front of a Judge.

Yay finally I feel like we might be progressing forwards....

Woo, good luck Mara! I'm excited to hear that stuff might be moving on with your case.

I've written about it on the board elsewhere, but we had some problems when trying to get the SSN.

I waited 14 days to make sure that I was in the system, and when we went to get my #, the woman said that although I had a K1 visa, the POE entered me on a F1 visa. She told me to go and get this sorted first and come back. I tried calling so many numbers but got nowhere, so made an infopass appointment.

USCIS told me that in their system, I was listed as a B2 visa! They told me to go back to the airport I entered and get them to correct this.

I went to get my SSN today and she told me it will take another 7-10 days to get my #... nothing but trouble there. We can't do anything until I have this number but hopefully it won't take too much longer.

Wow... you had to go back to the airport then? If that happened to us, that would have cost somewhere around 600-800 to fix at a minimum (though if it could be fixed over the phone... maybe).

How did it happen? Apparently the written K looked a lot like a F... so perhaps they also saw my DOB (22 years old) and assumed it was indeed a F1 Student visa.

I don't know how they got B2 in the system, I've always used the VWP.

I assume I wouldn't be able to do it over the phone as they needed to see my actual visa. Luckily, the airport was only a half hour ride for me.

Have you set a wedding date yet?

Our lawyer told Chris that our paperwork is in the system and we should receive a court date in the next week... *crosses fingers* I would really like to see an NOA2 by the end of August, I feel that would be bittersweet....

Can I get a marriage license without a SSN? I keep hearing that it's needed, so we've been stuck on that because of the screw-ups there. I'm expecting my SSN next week and then we can hopefully apply for the license.

But yeah, I was thinking July 17th as it's the dya of my graduation that I'm not able to attend, but we'll see.
