Well, I did not post the comment that the person sent me, because I am not going to point fingers at anyone. Most of you have been a BIG help to me and my fiancé. We all get a little stressed when it comes to something we want SOON. I'm not mad at anyone. So no worries there. I just felt that I should let some of you know not to be so rough on people. If I'm going to pick on someone, it's as a joke, and I say that I am joking. I love to have fun, and I also have a sense of humor. And occasional CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is ok. I don't mind at all. But no need it treat some as if they do not belong. Remember, we're all here for the same reason.

Sorry, but if you post a whole topic about this, then that's not "letting some of us know", you just adressed the whole forum.

From what I could read, noone has been really rude and sure wasn't laughing at you.

If you don't understand why people here are stressed out and get a lil snippy at times, you hopefully will by the time you get in your timeline where they already are.

It's not like you were just brushed off, you were still getting information, right?

All I can say is yes it does stink that some people choose to respond in a rude way as opposed to simply giving an answer or telling you to check the guides... it sucks that some people forget that they were exactly the same way you are when they started out this process and that they were once cluless, nervous, scared and wanted answers. Anyways, just ignore it.

That's exactly what happened...answer was given plus the advice to check the guides for further information.

And it wasn't rude either...

it wasn't rude to you, but others have said it was rude. Everyone has their opinion! I'm just telling this person that it's almost funny how we forget how we were starting out too and most of us were like her. If she finds something offensive then she should ignore it because she will not get anywhere otherwise.

Couldn't have said it any better...j/k

Of course I don't mean be rude just for the fun of it. Just saying, yes, it is a public forum with so many members, it is only natural that you will come across people you won't get along with or like them, but they still can provide you with good information.

So...filter that info and forget about the rest they are saying...or HOW they are saying it.

And for the sympathy part, stick with people you get along with.

Just because we have one goal or a similar destiny, doesn't mean we all have to love each other...as long as some simply rules are followed...lol

Well I didn't mean to laugh at you if I am one of those who you are talking about? And why address the whole forum and not stick to the original post you started and take it out with kitkat and myself? It's a really shitty thing to do when you post a thread like this and call attention to yourself. That is all.

Nobody OWES anyone an answer. Nobody is paid to answer you. If you don't read stuff and expect answers then expect good and bad...qualified and unqualified.

If you do not read the info available and then ask and someone gets annoyed at answering the same thing for the hundredth time ....well that is life.

Yeah it would be nice if we were all nice all the time but this is the internet and you get what you pay for.

I'd recommend that the OP learn to use the tools already available at VJ to answer the Frequently Asked Questions. That way she won't have to worry about asking questions that can be perceived as ridiculous.

Things like the timelines, processing times, Guides and Embassy-specific info at the top of every page would've helped her to see that CSC takes several months for NOA2.

Reading other posts is a good way to get information too. The message boards should be the post-of-last-resort, when you can't figure it out on your own. Caveat: you should at least TRY to find the info on your own first.

I'm just curious as to why this should be. Ok, I agree that ideally this sounds great. But is it really obligatory that people try to find the info on their own before asking, when they can just as easily post and get a reply? I get annoyed with answering the same questions over again and again too, but I usually either put a link to the guide or just don't respond.

When I was a newbie, I never would have thought of the message boards as a last resort. How would people be expected to know that? Maybe if we really want things to be as you suggested, then the "Please consider reading the FAQ's and Guides before posting" should be worded a bit more forcefully?

I'll answer, because I said it and it's been a long time since the topic came up.

This is a legal process we've entered. The legal professionals say that even the act of telling someone which form to fill out for which benefit is giving legal advice. There have been negative consequences for people who answer questions on immigration message boards--things that have happened in actual, real life.

If someone is doing their case on their own (I think the term is pro se), that is legally allowed--you are not required to have a lawyer to file your case. But, everytime you ask someone else for their OPINION on "how to do it" you put that person, and the site itself, in an awkward position. This very site has had issue on this topic in the past.

There is a difference between asking for others' experiences with something, and asking someone else here (non legals) how TO do it. All of the above is the same reason that I don't answer immigration questions in private message or email, and why I encourage people to not solicit or accept private information. The whole DIY immigraiton community was founded on the tidea of us helping each other by sharing our experiences. Now, it's hard to get ANYONE to post to the experience sites (www.kamya.com/interview etc), to contribute to the FAQ, to make updates to the Guides. New users here do not seem to understand that no one really owns visajourney, that Ewok is not a lawyer, or necessarily even knows anything about immigration or that this "community" is about MUTUTAL sharing of information. Not glomming a freebie off of others.

When someone drops in and wants to know everything, step by step without researching on their own, it's insulting, frankly.

It's also dangerous. My own experiences are getting dated.. my Consulate doesn't operate exactly like it did 4 years ago. It's far better to keep our discussions in public and up to date so that the information is fresh.

I could probably rattle on, and might have more thoughts on this later, but I agree w/you about the strength of the wording. I advocated for a tougher approach myself when it was discussed here, and there are some who think that a certain amount of reading should be required before posting permissions are given out. I think that Ewok is a very polite person, and that felt strong enough for him/her. That can change, at the request of the group.

Bottom line: if you are going to do your case yourself, you should be prepare to actually DO it yourself, not ask a question from others because you want to save time and money. You're already on the shortcut list for that by not hiring a lawyer. You are also opening yourself up to the personal interpretations of legal questions that may or may not be correct (same goes for calling USCIS and asking them---they don't know the answers, and aren't obligated to give you correct information).
