My brother is a leftie and made that mistake while in India. Then again he also wiped his azz with his right middle finger so it would have been worse to eat with the right.

Its funny that USA and UK are not on that list! Anything goes.

One that I found hard to deal with in Cambodia was the need to laugh and smile when they did something wrong/bad/inappropraite and someone is berrating them for it. I was with a friend and we hired two locals to take us out on their motorbikes to see some iriwadi dolphins. It started a downpour (I mean I could't look forward and my visibility to the left or right was about 5 feet!), you know one of those tropical downpours that last 10 minutes> He didn't slow down and crashed into a ditch. Fortunately my friend was ok but I started to berrate him for it and he just smiled and laughed! I knew the custom but was still enraged inside. I get the why, but for a westerner that is a difficult custom to deal with.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Pointing at someone in Albania will get you killed.

Turning down liquor is a no-no too, even if you don't drink it.

They just find my left-handed-ness strange.

The one that gets me is the shoes on/shoes off debate. We had a big roaring argument about it here.

I've always taken my shoes off. The people who leave them on all day inside and outside the house say that taking your shoes off means foot odor and fungus would be on the carpet. The people who take their shoes off say they don't want dirt, oil, dog poop, mud, grass being pounded into their carpet by people's shoes.

The foot smell is an interesting point. My feet never smell when I take my shoes off at home. But while housesitting years ago for a woman with 3 dogs and dirty carpeting, I chose to leave my shoes on all day. Boy did my feet smell rank by the end of the day (5AM to 11PM with shoes on).

When I drove across the US, I had my shoes on for 35 hours in a row (driving and only stopping to sleep in the car at a rest stop). When I finally got to a hotel halfway through the trip, my feet never enjoyed a hot bath as much as they did that day.

Hmm, well the farting is offensive in the US. Belching, too. Fish-limp handshake is no good. Jumping the line or "taking cuts" will get yur butt kicked. Thatz about it for US. We are pretty easy going here..... :star: :star:

Really? Cause I've heard (and smelled :dead: ) sooo many people farting in public in the States. I mean, way more than in other countries, so much more that it sounded like it was something "common" in America. Same with burping. A few friends of mine thought the same.

Guess other people feel different about it - and I hear a hallelujah! :P
