Nobody has asked me that question. My mom did ask my husband that question when we first met, because she disapproved of him. She would say "aren't there girls in Canada?". lol I do get a lot of people wondering how we met and people who know me now keep asking me if I'm going to move to Canada where he lives. I guess the immigration process is taking too long for them. :-P

If anyone asks, I just tell them the truth. I signed up for an online dating service. I didn't realize it was international in nature. I told the computer I didn't want to go more than 75 miles away. I guess it ignored me. Not only did it ignore me, it found me TWO wives. Once I've gotten to this point in my story, no one so far has made it past being too fascinated to ask anything but earnest questions from then on.

I really have a tough time convincing people that I didn't meet Viktoria this way. We met over dinner at a friends house here in Kentucky. No computer, no dating service, only my buddy's wife as a facilitator  If pushed, I will usually say "OK - you are right, I went online and there was a sale on Ukrainian women her age - with the special price I just couldn't pass up the deal" I find this much more amusing than she does :help:

Sad part is, my ex-inlaw met his wife via an agency, and I figured this was the only route to go so that I wouldn't wind up marrying another woman like my ex-wife. When I learned how the ex-wife's uncle went to Russia and met this great woman, and they settled down, and now have a son, and a great life together, I thought, "I'm going on-line." The road wasn't without a few bumps, however.

Nothing wrong with doing it that way, it is the presumption that I don't like.

I'm with you. Everyone asks me why I had to go out of country to find a wife. If I had wanted another smart-a$$, concieted, money spending, old bat, I could have found one. ( I've had went thru 4 of them now). I wanted some one loving, young, pretty, not Americanized, conservative,(on the outside) that appreciated what an American man has to offer. And most American women just don't have a clue.

I get asked that question sometimes, but most people just assume we met in Iraq and think its some kind of romantic love story. Then they want to hear all the details. Some of them thought my husband wanted to marry me for the visa but he was actually on a petition with his family for refugee to Australia. He had to take himself off of that and later we petitioned for him to come as a refugee for the US. Since his visa is not family based, he doesn't have to stay with me in order to stay here, but he does because he loves me and wants to be with me.

It seems to me that most people I've met don't come straight out with a "Why couldn't you ..." (thus placing some kind of strange blame on me for something I honestly couldn't have avoided). Rather, they ask me "Do you ever wish you had found someone closer/could date other people/etc?" And I always tell them NO WAY!! :D

Love is very strange, recall like it was yesterday, the very first time I called my wife, I couldn't understand a word she was saying and she couldn't understand a word I was saying, but we both new we wanted to pursue our relationship. That phone conversation, if you could call it that, lasted nearly an hour. It's like we could communicate without words.

I get asked that question sometimes, I shrug it off, because I don't think it should matter where someone comes from.

The funniest thing though is that some people ask "how do you guys communicate?" And these are people I've known for YEARS. I guess they don't remember that, I don't know.... I speak Spanish!!! or that I'm a Spanish teacher in training lol.... or that I lived in Puerto Rico?? That just slipped their minds, but the fact that my husband's from Peru - yeah I guess they got that part.

People are dumb is all I have to say, lol.

Last night, I let my neighbor know that I just visited Leidys in Colombia. His question: So, you're trying to bring another one back?

Ken seriously, when people talk like that I often just make bad jokes about ordering Vika from a catalogue or something. Vika doesn't really care for the humor, but so many people here think they can't get to Florida for a visit to Disney without having their passport validated - they just can't help themselves.

That's so rude of them to say, I don't know why people don't follow the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" rule. Geez.
