Ok the day after we buy me one and talk about insurance with apple but haven't bought yet, (at&t wouldn't sell us insurance for the i-phone, not sure why) Vito has dropped his in lots of water, was in it for i think a few secs, (as long as it took to grab it out) and the screen went a bit "funny"he switched it off right away. Amex will only credit him back what he charged for old one in three weeks if he buys a new one which will be full price. $400. ouch. its sitting in rice right now cos someone said it might dry it out. the water sensor is showing red not white so its been watered deff, and he cant work out how to get the back cover off. :( has anyone got any ideas on how to save it? apple said on the phone its beyond financial repair because of the water spot, it would cost as much as a new one. but thats from phone call they haven't seen it.

we need ideas as he's really bummed and we can't afford another $400 even if we get the $186 back from the old one.

Thanks Hannah

let it dry and turn it back on... I dropped a non-Iphone in water once and after it fully dried it worked fine for another year+

Remove the battery immediately, open it up as much as you possibly can, and let it dry thoroughly, maybe for a couple of days, before you try turning it on again. Don't blow any heat on it; a hairdryer on cool setting or a fan might help. It may work after it's really had a chance to dry out. I've saved a phone and a digital camera that were completely immersed in water -- the camera still works more than five years later, and the phone eventually died of natural causes. Hope you're successful.

"Wet iPhone Solution : )

Okay this is for all of you that have/will a wet iphone. I got pushed in the pool, destroying my iphone which shouldn't be replaced for free, but it was. The sensor was red in the jack, but with a little ingenuity, it can be white again.

I went to staples and bought a package of white circular labels (the ones for garage sales etc..) for $2. I went home and cut one to the size just big enough to fit in the headphone jack. I got a toothpick and pushed it gently down, to make sure the sticky was on the bottom and then pressed it down securely. Good as new.

Long story short, I went to the apple store about an hour and played ignorant that it just wouldn't turn on. The so-called-genius pulled out a medical light thing they use to look in ears with and put it in and said it's still white. He couldn't tell the difference. And then I walked out with a free phone, spent $2 and saved $250.

Hope this will help others in the future."

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
