I should preface my post by saying that everytime Gene comes through Custom's in Canada he's given the 3rd degree...

Our last meeting in June was a two week vacation in the Canadian Rockies. Gene flew into Edmonton, I met him there, and we were going to start our journey from there. The plane landed, and no Gene...

Guess he was so excited about his proposal, he was shaking a bit, and was sent to two different interview rooms to be questioned. He told the Custom's Officer that he was going to propose at the arrival gate to me, and the Custom's Officer, quite nicely, asked if he (Gene) had brought the ring. Gene says, yes, and pulls it out..whereby the Custom's Officer says, you've not declared it, go to this other room! Gene is REALLY nervous now, and is seen by another Officer who informs him that he should have declared the ring he was bringing to me, and that they could seize it. Oh boy...poor Gene. Anyway, the Officer said it was his lucky day, and let him bring the ring in. He had to pay the GST though!

So, after waiting, and waiting watching the gate for his arrival, I see him finally! My eyes are tearing, and I notice he's walking funny. He has a red and white baseball cap on, with something inscribed on the front, but I don't see that...I'm just wanting him to look at ME while he's approaching! He's got his head down, and I'm thinking...huh???

As soon as he comes closer I see his hat...embroidered on it "Will you marry me?"

He gets down on one knee...shaking like the devil...tears in his eyes, asking...Will you Marry me? I start to cry, and he says, hurry up and say yes, and put this ring on before they confiscate it!

Awwwwwww, I still get teary thinking of this. I will never forget this moment.

Steve actually proposed twice. On July 4th Alyx (my daughter) were up in Canada with him, I don't know what they call this place but it's on the side of the road and has these very red I think clay mounds. She was wandering off picking flowers and off to the side steve brought out a little sterling silver ring, got down on his knee and proposed...and I tearilly said yes.

The next day we all went to Canada's Wonderland, after stopping by his parents house for a bit. Alyx has always been terrified of fast carnival rides, and Steve had been trying the entire time we were there to coerce her into riding a roller coaster. He pulled her off to the side and talked to her a bit and she gave in. I have to admit it this made me really nervous, she was 12 and I didn't want her scared and I'm protective I'll admit it. As she we got in line to get in the cars Alyx said "Mom, I want to ride with Steve, you're too easy on me and if I get scared you won't make me go" So what could I do, I got in one car and they got in the other and she hung on to him, face buried under his arm scared to death....but she did it. As we got off of the roller coaster, right there on the stairs they both stopped me and she grinned still all teary eyed from the ride and handed him a small blue box. He opened the box and proposed again, inside was his grandmothers engagement ring, an antique, small, filigreed band with 3 sapphires and 2 diamonds and I cried so hard!

Afterwards I found out that when he pulled her aside that day not only did he give her the ring to hold, he asked her for permission :)

I proposed to her after dinner by the beach. I was shaking and had put the ring in my pants pocket. As I was holding her hand, I nervously slipped it on her finger as I asked her to marry me. Moments later, I realized I had placed it on her right hand...hope that didn't jinx us... :P

We agreed marriage would be a good idea. So we went to the engagement ring store and bought our matching cheapo Brazilian engagement gold bands.

Then, because that wasn't very dramatic, we had my British friend Alex come over to our apartment where we staged a fake proposal and took lots of pictures. It was pretty hilaire. I have a picture of Rey on bended knee and me feigning surprise, a picture of my friend Alex's 'spontaneous' shocked reaction, and one of me admiring my $25 ring like it's the Hope diamond.

The conspicuous open bottle of vodka on a table in the background of all those pictures really adds that extra touch of class engagement photos should have.

Someday, should we ever have a big wedding, we'll do it all "the right way," most likely.

well, sometime in the begining of our relationship we just knew we wantd to be together forever but the k-1 process was overwhelming so we just did a lot of traveling and visiting while we sorted out the details of the process and when we wanted to do it...one day he tied a twist tie around my finger and said 'there, thats all I can afford' He was joking around like he always does...I kept that ring, I still have it :) but anywys...one day just as I was leaving after a weekend visit, he said 'its time to sign the papers' ..... so we knew it was set. I never really thought about a formal proposal

July 2004 and we finally have everything ready to send in then we settle in for the wait continuing the every 2 week visits

after a loooong wait for my paperwork to come in from canada, I finally got my visa appointment in october 2005 !!!!

I was not planning to activate my visa until December 6th but I still visited every couple weeks. So I was in Ohio one weekend and it was the Monday and I was supposed to meet him at the bar we frequent after he got off work. So I rolled on over to met him, he usually gets off at 5, but he calls and tells me he is running late to 'hang tight'. Ok cool, I know a lot of the people there so I'll sit and chat with them a bit....and wait.

He calls back quite a while later and says he is on his way finally that he had a lot of running around to do and for me to still wait. Ok. He also asks who all is there. The after work crowd has left and there are only about 4 people left. He asks to speak to the owner (a good friend) So I pass him the phone, unusual but ok maybe he wanted to borrow a guitar or cd or something .....

He comes in and immediately goes into the backroom with the owner...odd but ok *shrug*

He comes out and sits down beside me nd asks how my day was.....'ok'

He asks for a kiss .....'of course you can have a kiss'

The he gets weird

He asks me if i love him...i notice he is shaking

I ask 'did you wreck the truck or something?'

He asks again 'do you love me?'

I answer 'yes, of course i love you'

he asks 'what would you say if I asked you to marry me?'

I say 'I would say yes sillyhead, you know that?' (now Im thnking he ran into my car with his truck or something)

Then he pulls out a ring box and says 'what would you say if i gave you this?'

(it took every ounce of self control I had NOT to give him a sarcastic answer since sarcasm is my second language)

I said 'YES' hugged kissed and looked over to see the owner tearing up and his wife snapping pictures.

The delay in coming to the bar after work was because he went and picked up his mom and they went ring shopping together. It meant a lot that she had a hand in picking it out, she is a special lady.

The phone call when he asked to speak to the owner was to tell him to get his camera but didnt tell him why.....when he came in and went to the back room was to show him the ring :)

He said he couldnt get down on his knee because he was shaking so much he would have fallen over

It was funny, the visa was already in place, everything was set, but he was still nervous :)

I knew he would get a ring sometime to make it 'official', I would have been happy with the twist tie ring, I really wasn't expecting the one I got...it is huge :) I guess he really does love me hehehe

Jerry proposed to me twice. The first time I got hysterical because I couldn't say yes at that point and was mad ---I had waited a long time to find the guy I wanted to marry, and saying "not yet" was not part of the scenario!

After taking a half hour to calm me down, we came to a compromise -- I would keep the engagement ring and when I was ready to discuss marriage again, I would give it back to him.

The second proposal was on a absolutely beautiful day, near a lake in eastern Oklahoma-- very perfect. :)

My father, upon my return home, said "he proposed at Easter and you had the ring all along, didn't you?"

How does he know this stuff?

The best part of all of this? Jerry bought the ring a month after we started talking, because he knew a lot sooner than I ever did. Got the size right and everything -- without ever asking me. What can I say---he's good. :luv:

Ours was ridiculous. :P

We kept talking about how crappy it was that lived so far and only saw each other so little. So he said we should finish college and move in together since that'd be the only way to be close. I said that would be nice and he said that while at it we might as well get married since he's traditional and moving in together is the same as marriage. I said that would be nice. We didn't say anymore on the subject. In the next vacation together I told him I was waiting for his proposal. In the next one he said we should plan on getting married, see how we'd work it out.

Then I told my parents I was gonna marry Luis and my dad said he wanted him to ask his permission. So in the following trip Luis asked my father but it was sort of dumb since everybody knew we were to get married months before the actual engagement. :P

An afterthought after reading everyone's proposals...doing the K-1 really has hampered some spontaneity. For example, I had to go through a security check at my SO's workplace, that took almost 2 years! We had to let them know what our intentions were prior to all of this. As well, my property settlement wasn't completed, even though I was divorced, and we had decided to wait until everything was complete before getting "engaged". We submitted our I-129 in May, and still hadn't gotten "officially engaged". What WAS spontaneous was that I didn't know WHEN he would propose. And the ring...he picked out the ring on his own. I'm not complaining, it's just that we knew 4 years ago we wanted to be married, but everything has been pretty much "structured" up to this point in terms of paperwork.
