on her interview she said she received no government assistance but she gets $500 a month in food stamps and like a million bucks of medical bills for those 8 babies will be paid

Yeah, she used her words wisely. SHE doesn't get government assistance but some of her kids do! Two (or three?) of them are disabled and receive disability.

And who's paying for their hospital bill? Medicaid. Not her!

I am pasting the response of people and reactions because i think you ll find it as interesting as i did. Plus it ll be something to look at if the board gets a bit boring!THE single mother of octuplets born in California last week is seeking $2m (£1.37m) from media interviews and commercial sponsorship to help pay the cost of raising the children.

Nadya Suleman, 33, plans a career as a television childcare expert after it emerged last week that she already had six children before giving birth on Monday. She now has 14 below the age of eight.

Although still confined to an LA hospital bed, she intends to talk to two influential television hosts this week — media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and Diane Sawyer, who presents Good Morning America.

Her family has told agents she needs cash from deals such as nappy sponsorship — she will get through 250 a week in the next few months — and the agents will gauge public reaction to her story.

OK, you always follow the money when trying to get to the facts. So who paid for the delivery of her first 6 kids. Who paid for the fertility treatments (they cant be cheap) and who will cap off the barrel by footing the octuplets bill. IDK, but im sure u dont get in-vitro with food stamps.

Jay, Morristown, usa

This is just nonsence!!!!!!!!!!!! How is a single mother going to raise a 14 kids with other peoples money...... As a tax payer i am really mad. we work so hard for that money.. for what so some one else to just recieve it so easy. getting food stamps and money from the government is WELFARE.

Dina, Seattle, WASHIGTON

Personally i thinks shes crazy! My husband and I have two children and We both have jobs. Our Oldest has autism and we barely make it sometimes. Just having one child with special needs is tough. Those children arent going to get the attention they need.

Cindy, Arapaho, USA

I am a single mother of 2 and had no choice but to get on assistance when I was laid off from my job. It's really disappointing to see this. She's taking away from those who need it as a last resort. I can't help but feel bad for the babies tho. :( I will be off asst next month! Finally!

Joan, SD, USA

My wife and I have no children, very little bills, both work, we are responsible for what we do and for our actions. Try adoption and give a child a good chance. Be responsible and not a problem to the tax payer. We get up every morning to pay for people on Welfare. It is not fair.

David, Rockledge, Florida

Well I hope the sponsorships works out, otherwise she'll be getting our tax money for her irresponsible act.

KD, San Jose, USA

Any company that supports this lady will lose my business. She is in it for attention and money. Pathetic!

Sam, Grand Rapids, USA

Adoption! Adoption! Adoption!

So many couples are waiting for babies!

Robbie Ervin, Indianapolis, USA

It is so sad to me to see a woman, a young one at that, treating her body like a guinea pig or hamster. she knew exactly what she was getting into and didn't care. she said she'll get money from oprah and other wealthy people? why? why should she get anything at all? when is a bad behavior rewarded?

carmen rivera, New York, New york

Now I know that if I really want to do so, I can have a vast number of children and the government will pay for it all! How wonderful. Why am I waiting? I am a grad student on university salary, I should get busy and have 14 kids. The gravy train of TV fame will glide me past the economic recession.

Kaitlin M., Pullman, USA

Look at those living in Africa, the ones we see on tv all the time asking Americans to donate only 10 cents a day to feed a family of twenty? The Red Cross and other sources of aid offer contraceptives to those in that region and they don't take it, so why isn't there more focus on those situations?

Chels, Louisville, USA

First off let me say this. im a 24 year old mother of 2. my husband is on disabled. he gets a check onces a month. i work a 40 hrs a week. im bearly getting by. i feel soo sorry for her that she thinks having that many kids well fill a space in her life she is wrong and really needs to get help

kim, houston, use

This is an outrage, the doctor who allowed this should be be held accountable. In this weak economy it is uncalled for.

The well being of the children are not being considered. God bless the grandparents. I hope that her parents will insist on ther daughter having counseling .

htbethea , georgia , united states

Why would someone with 6 children be eligible for IVF? Surely there should be some limit. Also how could she afford the treatment if she doesn't have a job and can't afford anyrhing more than a 2 bedroom house for her whole family?

Emma, London,

"many have asked how an unemployed single mother can raise 14 children"

how could she be employed?

M, London, UK

I really hope she sinks so low that she will need to give up all of her children. People like that do not have the right mind to raise and educate children. Imagine all 14 of the babies grow up thinking like her? How many more freeloaders do working people need to support?

Janet, Antwerp, Belgium

This is so sad when there are so many married couples who can't have children and can't afford any of the processes to get them (surrogacy, adoption, egg donation). If she really wanted to be a wonderful mother, she would let these couples adopt them and give them a life she can't.

Kathleen, Prescott, USA

This woman is clearly deluded - 1 in thinking that she is being a good mother by having so many young children that she cannot support & 2, she recently said of her anon sperm donnor (used for all her children) that she hoped he would one day want get to know them - think she missed the point!

Gemma, Burton-on-Trent, UK

14 Children and 3 adults in a 2 Bedroom bungalow!!?? Give over, that's overcrowding, so now she'll want a new house to go with the notoriety. I don't know about benefits in USA, but here in the UK, she'd probably be given a small mansion and massive benefits at tax payers expense.

Ron, Milton Keynes, UK

How were the original in vitro paid for? Who paid for these?

larry, georgia,

Linker- I see your point. On the other hand, she is a woman who has NO income and possibly no health insurance. Many of us work hard and we shouldn't be responsible for providing for these children. I am a single mom, teaching salary and get child support for my 1 child. How can she afford this?

Monica, Monmouth County, USA

Really, I don't have any problems with other people's unique desires...until I believe I'm going to have to pay to fulfill those desires. Secondly, I think as "animals" with a higher cognitive ability, we have a RESPONSIBILITY to refrain from fulfilling all of our individual desires!

susan , Portland, USA

I just love the way the American armchair critics of humanity can in all good consciousness sit back and, in general, condem anybody or anything in life who doesn't share their viewpoints!

Have we forgotten we are all animals, and that we all have individual, and sometimes unique desires! Honestly!

Linker, Xenia, USA

I wonder if she is going to support these children on her own or if she is going to do like so many others like her and expect us taxpayers to pay her way. Does she have health insurance? How does she plan to buy diapers for all those babies? Did she think of that?

Lisa, Albert Lea, USA

This is the most notrotious story I have ever heard, and that she is giving infertility clinics a bad name. Anyone know that is going trhough ivf, that no reputable clinic would do something like this. With the amout of risks to mother and baby ,and now we tax payers pay for her choices!!!!

Carri Fishback, ELK RIVER, USA

Wow! Attention for the money the American people will give her. TV interviews, new home, etc...She'll have everything she needs..Sad thing if it's really for her or for her babies.

Donna, Dayton, USA

Frankly, if she is to get any money for movie, TV or book deals it sound to paid into a trust fund and the hospital bills are paid first from that fund. Her choice to have that many children with few fianncial resources should not be at the expense of the tax payers.

Ginny, MN, USA

I am totally confused by any Doctor that would do this kind of medical procedure, that doctor or group of doctors should loose their licenses. Under normal circumstances there would be many companies stepping up to the plate to help with the support of a parent of multiples, not this time.

Terry, Jacksonville, United States

This is outrageous! Marries at 20 (1996), gets a job at 21 (1997), gets injured at 23 (1999), invitro from friend at age 24 (2000), & pops out 6 kids from 2001-2007, all invitro. Now, 8 more? She planned it from the start. I'll fight tooth and nail about my tax dollars supporting her and 14 kids.

Teresa, Anaheim, USA

Who is paying the hospital bill. Hope not the taxpayers, too.

Is the mother going to be forced to give her "profits", book deal, tv show, Oprah, etc. so that the taxpayers are not responsible for the cost she made.

CharPA, Wayne, USA

I too believe that it was not in the interest of the children in this case. But I also believe that it is also the Dr.'s fault and what is the underlying story within that decision as well. However the children are here and shouldn't be punsihed for the foolish acts of selfish adults.

Karen, Green Bay, USA

I think it is all a scam. WHO in there right mind does in vitro on a single woman with no job and 6 kids that live in a 2 bedroom house. That is insane. I think the taxpayers shouldn't have to foot the bill for her. The kids should be taken if she can't support them. There are plenty wanting to adop

Patricia, KC, USA

We live in a land of opportunity/ freedom. However, when your freedoms and opportunties require payment indirectly from "We The People" then it is unspeakable. If you cannot independently provide financially to feed, house, clothe and most importantly educate these children. then don't have them!

Diana, Phoenix, USA

Just the simple fact mentioned of she having a publicist says something within itself.

Jessica Tape, Buckfield, Maine, USA

If a person purposely has that many children, which in my opinion is rediculous now days, assistance of any kind should be NULL AND VOID, NO HANDOUTS FOR HER !!!!!!

rodney, pembroke, ontario, canada

None of you should be surprised, as many women (not all) have been/are taking advantage of the U.S. childcare system for years. This individual basically ripped a whole in what was perceived as a small tear in the childcare system. So taxpayers, get your wallets out...

Rob, Cleveland, USA

This results from politicians pander to female voters - allowing millions of shady mothers to continue taking advantage of a suspect childcare system; consequently affecting EVERYONE wallets. I wonder if (now) President Obama will lecture women on Mother's Day, like he did men on Father's Day.

Rob, Cleveland, USA

Let's pay her 2 million so that other people try to have 9 children to get their money.

niki, California, USA

I think she and the doctors were all irresponsible, and the Oprahs and Diane Sawyers that will be arranging and paying for interviews, well now as wrong as that is, how about the big to do the media has made about a "man" having a baby. Now that is as riduculous as this, It is all wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunny, Las Vegas, USA

I feel like I've already been ripped off as a taxpayer - estimates per child for hospital exceeds $165,000.

I think that she shouldn't get a second of air time.

grace, napa, usa

You must be able to bear the finanical responsiblity for any child concieved through fertity medicine. There are so many orphaned children that need homes. We would not need such a large social system to support women and children if we lived by a moral standard that has already been created

jg, galeton,

The ability to give birth to a flock of children does NOT make someone a child care expert! Crikey! The folks lost their own home, moved into her 2BR home- 3 adults and 14 kids in a 2BR home? CPS will be on that like a duck on a junebug. I feel simply horrible for those children.

Holly, Royal Oak , USA

I think this woman she have to pay for all of this- instead of being totally obsessed with the payoff of Octuplets and demanding TV shows and the like - GET A JOB!!!!-

How does this happen anyway????? I think this sends a poor message to our youth.

Donna, Lake Villa, USA

I don't want to see any interviews from this sick woman - anyone that would pay this selfish human being $2M is just as out of their mind as she is out of hers!! Poor babies, all 14 of them!

Holly, Evansville, USA

I am absolutely disgusted at the entire situation. There is nothing positive in this in any form and if we play into this by watching interviews or buying products from potential sponsors we are just as deplorable.

Steve, Houston, USA

Hmph, let the doctors who did this take responsibility. I certainly don't want to pay to raise her children. This was not repsonsible behavior...and CPS had better keep an eye on this woman and the welfare of these children. There is NO way this woman can care for the children and keep them safe.

Joyce, Arizona, USA

its time to have some tube tying here i think, perhaps its long overdue.

James Murray, Clearlake, USA

Unbelieveable!! There are women out there who go through hell just to have one child and this woman is taking advantage of the system?!!!! I feel bad for the children..It's not their fault! She should not have had the chance to do this! What were the drs thinking???? I am appalled!!!!

Vickie, Atlantic City,

Hey Daniele from Canada, she didn't get pregnant naturally! If you even knew what people who have gone through invtro go through, you would understand..she elected to have the embryos put in her so it wasn't a matter of abortion or not! Women go through hell with IVF and this women should be ashamed

Vickie, EHT, USA

Hey Daniele from Canada, she didn't get pregnant naturally! If you even knew what people who have gone through invtro go through, you would understand..she elected to have the embryos put in her so it wasn't a matter of abortion or not! Women go through hell with IVF and this women should be ashamed

Vickie, EHT, USA

Ooooo...this makes me so mad. It is so irresponsible of the doctor and the woman to have gone through with this. My dear sister and her husband have tried, unsuccessfully to have IVF 3X. None of the embroyos took. They have no children and would make wonderful parents.

Kathy P., Utah, USA

Wow! The company doing the fertilzation didn't even wonder how she was going to pay for it? If she's on welfare, how did she pay for their services? Just another drain on taxpayer's money by lazy people. And TV shows are gobbling it up like they do everything else without thought.

Carla, Clovis, USA

I have several problems with this scenario. What physician in their right mind would do IVF on a woman who already has 6 children, and then implant such a large number? Second, it is not the taxpayers responsibility, nor that of large corporations, or media groups to help pay to raise her children.

Jennifer Olivarez, Lubbock, USA

With all the media attention and donations made to people around the globe, who have 4, 5, 6, etc. babies, some people would be dumb enough to do this JUST to get the money. I liken it too a young girl who thinks if she gets pregnant by her boyfriend their relationship would improve. It's Just Sad.

Ketielynn, Lexington, USA

This gal had a plan from the start. She has no business trying for more kiddles, unemployed, parents living with her - How could she afford the introvitro whatever? Her plan was to have babies, no consideration for anything else, she will be a burden on taxpayers - irresponsibility!!!!!

Nate, Taylors, USA

This woman is emotionally troubled and obviously a self-serving person. Common sense would dictacte her inability to care for that many children, without a father. I dont care how much you love children, if she is unable to provide for them, it defeats the intent of good parenting.

marcia , atlanta, usa

How does someone file for bankruptcy and then manage to pay for in vitro fertilization?! According to the timeline, she filed for bankruptcy just before she would have been implanted with the embryos. Something isn't right with this whole story.... much less the woman at the center of this all.

Kristy Adair, Greenville,

Premature multiples have high rates of lifelong disabilities. That is the sad truth of this story. These children may have to live with handicaps including Cerebral Palsy, blindness, and other birth defects because their mother and her fertility doctor showed extremely poor judgment.

Devlin Fautore, Las Vegas, NV, USA

I think the state of California should be able to put a lien on this money she will be recieving, until all bills are paid. As far as I am concerned, this lady is just another drain on the system. More kids, more money.

Scott, Swansboro, USA

Please.... don`t judge her. she is not perfect. world isn`t.. she loves children, I do too. I would love to have many children as I could. I am not crazy neither sick. I don`t blame her. I have one child right now at the moment. I am Catholic,pro-life and don`t believe in Abortion.

Daniele, Toronto, Ontairo, Canada

She should be paid by Oprah, or whoever she gives an interview to. She is obviously in demand by the media because she will boost ratings. And, then our tax dollars won't have to support her family. This whole situation is wrong. She should be ashamed.

Kim, Columbus, USA

By asking for a purported $2 million from Oprah, the mother may be acting uncharacteristically responsible. If she doesn't earn money from interviews, she'd have no source of income, and the taxpayers of California would presumably have to pay for the 46 ( ! ) attending staff at the birth, etc.

K. H., Beaufort,

This is very controversial and unethical. It should fall to the irresponsible doctor to provide for these innocent babies. I would hope Ophra and Sawyer or any of the media would not encourage this mother any further. Hello CPS are you listening? A sad day in the USA indeed.

Jackie, Phoenix,

oh sure why don't collect 2 million dollars, so the rest of us who barely make it on our already cut income due to a bad ecomony can pay your way......what a stupid thing and selfish thing for you to do......

lynn, chattanooga, us

For the record, "that family with eight kids", if speaking about the Gosselins, have NOT "brought up their kids through donations", and this story is NOTHING like them. Nada. Zip.

Just because you "can" do something doesn't make it right :o/ This is a good example of it.

Wendy, Greensboro, US

Why should we suport them? This is what is wrong with the USA. with are we going to say no more free loaders.

Cathy, forsyth,

Why would a single woman with 6 children even consider having another child, let alone 8 more. Who is suppose to support and care for those babies. From what I have read she wasn't doing a very good job with the 6 she had. What doctor would agree to impregnate a woman in her circumstances? Sad!

Tammy, Tampa, FL,

I worked in child welfare for a lot of years. I dealt with moms who wanted to use drugs more than they wanted their children. I think before we condemn this women or lable her as a poor parent, we should give her a chance. If I learned one thing from my job, it was this. Never judge. Pray instead.

Terry, Dekalb, USA

Laura then you send her a check to take care of them....

Jake, Houston, USA

What is the difference, she has 14 kids, some irresponsible people have that many abortions, paid for by tax dollars as well. Why do you people cry for these babies, but advocate for killing babies out of their mothers womb, even at the stage that these 8 were born, 31 weeks. You make me sick.

Deedra, Wasilla, Alaska

I can relate to jamies situation. I am 22 married with two girls and also have to work opposite shift than my husband as well as manage school in the morning. I always wanted a child but I would not bring not even one in to the world if I knew I would not be able to manage them on my own.

Bella, San Jose , USA

Not having the money to raise them is a form of neglect and abuse. Abuse does not have to be physical for it to hurt. The fact that she cannot devote the time and attention a child needs is terrible; not to mention that one of her older children has autism, which means that the child requires MORE.

Lisa, Pullman, WA, USA

The absolute best thing that could happen in this case is complete media silence...get that mother and her babies out of the spotlight and the news. Unfortunately, this is the kind of publicity for which the public creates the market.

Mary, Springfield, USA

Married or unmarried...don't have kids you can't afford! How irresponsible and selfish! Oh, and did Medicaid pay for the treatments? What about the hospital bills? And we wonder why we're facing funding shortfalls? This situation is disgusting. I feel very sorry for those children.

Kate, Albany, NY, USA

While I don't agree with Miss Suleman's decision to have more children after already being a mother of six....I don't agree with those of you that think this is a reason to take her children away. To my knowledge, there has been no reported child abuse or neglect.

Laura, Thomasville,

i am married, work opposite shifts than my husband so we dont have to pay daycare, when i put my kids to sleep, i work on my online classes so my children are raised by their parents. isnt that uncommon these days, who wants to give me money for that?lol who could stoop so low to live off taxpayers

jamie, jackson, us

When I first read this story, I thought to myself.... She's out to make some money from a reality show. If any one does an interview with this woman all Americans should boycott their show. This is just ludicrous!!!!! Such a selfish, selfish woman. Trying to make it rich by not even working.

Samantha, South Dakota, USA

My question is who paid for this. She is a single, unemployed mother..that tells me no insurance. Did medicaid pay for this. That is not the purpose of medicaid and if they did get charged for this she should be charged with welfare fraud. She did not need more children.

diane cunard, ellenwood, ga

It's not the real thing! If she conceived naturally then it would be justified! And if she were married! Shame on you! American's are struggling already! And if we as American's condone this kind of behavior; what kind of message is that to give our kids?

KC, San Clemente,

Everyone and anyone in America should speak out about this. This is truly a crime in which her own children are the victims. Giving her any money for talk shows and books is indeed what she seems to be after. This would only encourage bizarre behavior by others who will try to top this fiasco

Lori H, Newport Beach , USA

The doctors at the clinic I consulted wouldn't even talk to us until we had been trying for 2+years. They told me that ending up with extreme multiples was an embarrassment to the entire profession. I don't think she should get money for being irresponsible and not putting her family first.

Morrigianna, NJ, USA

I think that this woman is very irresponsible and should not profit from her actions/children. She should be tested for fitness to raise these children and they should not be in her custody until she can provide for them on her own.

Elena Prodan, Las Vegas, USA

television childcare expert? there's NO TIME for a television career with fourteen children.. i have one & i'm already a super busy mom with no time for myself !! BTW....2 million is not enough to raise 14 kids may the good Lord help this tough woman

Michelle, Arcadia,

I hate to say it, but this woman should have her kids taken away and she should be steirelized. No one in their right mind would do this except for attention. The kids will suffer and we will have to pick up the tab. Maybe she watched John and Kate + 8 too many times and thought she could cash in.

Chuck, La Junta, USA

I totally agree that no one should be giving this woman a dime. "A professional student living off grants' with an AGENT?? She's obviously failed to realize the reaction to her situation in this country...but I expect she'll get a reality check very soon. Wonder what her Plan B is?

Pam, Bay City, MI, USA

She shouldn't get a single dime. This is nothing more than a selfish, greedy, attempt to get money. If any single media source gives her one dollar, they are complete suckers. Why don't we all do the same, all in the name of getting rich for being greedy. This woman should get ZERO help.

Cheryl, Rapid City, SD, USA

The mother will be better off doing the interviews for free. She will never see any of $2,000,000. It will take that much and more to get her and those babies out of the hospital.

Paul Rosenzweig Jr, Augusta, GA

our tax dollars in the usa should not fund this womans family. she should have to pay her own way and if she can not then child services should step in and take her children.when as a country are we going to say enough is enough people like this are selfish she sure as hell did not think of her kids

jaime, wilmington, usa

I would hope that NO ONE give this women money. And, if the shows stoop to giving her money I hope as Smart Americans we will not watch her. This will just egg her on.

kay, Vegas, usa

I think child protective services should start looking into her case and determine the vested interest of this mother and if she is fit to take care of these kids. I think she got the idea from a reality TV with 8 kids where they brought up their kids thru donations. She has a better record now.

Maria Santander, Duarte, usa

Let's see now...now money...no husband..no job, should be an easy guess as to exactly who will be supporting them, US citizen or not.

patilee, san diego, us

I believe the doctors should have to appear before a medical review board & have their license restricted if not taken away. I don't believe the woman should be allowed to keep the children so they can suport her, she should prove she can suport them.

KAREN, LEXINGTON, SC, UNITED STATES

I'm a catholic and I find this very disturbing. This lady who already has 6 children, anow add 8 more children. She is not working, and has no means of support, but the state. I feel that the taypayers of California will pay the bill. That's wrong. I should not have to pay for this breech of ethics

Mario, Pleasant Hill, USA

I work NICU & have taken care of premature multiples and seen the mom's shock and grief when the babies suffered multiple illnesses, painful procedures, and in many cases died. They all say the same thing: "I had no idea it would be this way." This mom's story is misleading, to say the least.

Elaine, New Orleans, USA

I think she is in this for money also . But how did she pay to have the invetro done?

Cathy, Horsham , usa

This women and the doctor are irresponsible and I feel sorry for the poor kids that are definitely going to suffer, but this women should not receive a dime from the media for her irresponsibilty. Have the doctor pay for all expenses. Make him responsible !!

Dee, Wisconsin, USA

This is crazy!!! If Opera brings her on her show and gives her money/gifts, it will only condone every broke, unemployed, single person to try to have as many children as possible. It is setting a terrible example.

Nicole, Cleveland, USA

Wow! Glad I live in California! Soon as I find out who the doctor was, I am going that IVF route. No big deal for the mother who is 33, but I am as old as the woman from Italy. Trips would be a phenomenum, and think of that money! Wow! Oprah, hold on, I'll be there within the year, I hope.

Sue, San Diego,

I think she's sick. I said from the very beginning that I think she had the multiple births on purpose so she could strike some sort of TV deals and make a lot of money. I will not buy any books she writes nor watch any show she is in. Her babies health is in question, all she wants is money.

Amberly, Tulsa, USA

Is she a US citizen? Who's paying the medical bills?

If she's unable to pay the medical fees, the doctor responsible for the invitro proceedure for an unmarried mother of 6 children should be sued for the medical fees.

Jana Rock, Boston, USA

I am infuriated that any medical practitioner would not do the responsible thing and not only screen their patients, but then implant so many embreyos. Any woman presenting to them for such a procedure should not only have to prove her infertility, but also her finacial suitability.

Sara, Central Illinois, United States

Just ignore her and she'll go away.

Chris, Milwaukee, USA

I wonder who paid for the IVF? This is absurd and irresponsible for her and the doctor. I do not care about hearing what she has to say--she should be ashamed. These children have no father and she has no money to take care of them. THis is child abuse.

B Tanner, GA.

Brenda Tanner, Big Canoe, USA

I can't believe this woman was even alowed to have this many children. I dont care who you are or how much money she gets, there is NO WAY she can raise these poor children herself without a father. And most likely she will never marry. I mean, who wants to marry someone that has 14 small children?

Erech, Midland, USA

She says she wanted one more child.... and she implanted 8. She had no problem with IVF being she already had 6 births from it... And now she is seeking being a TV childcare expert to make money to raise her kids... no it wasn't for the money. Of Course it Was. A Crazy's ladies advice, no thanks

Andrea, Costa Mesa, USA

How can this woman be allowed to do this with no husband, no job, and no suitable living situation and a loving couple cant adopt 1 child because the husband is 15 pounds overweight. None of this makes since. I feel sorry for each one of those kids.

Lucy, fenton, USA

Let Someone with the time, patience, faith and finances, raise these babies in a decent family environment. The State should have have to pay for her "14 " babies. Let's see her go to work and take care of all of them herself. Didnt give a thought to that I am sure. Sorry for grandprnts & Kids.

Pat Horner, Gerrardstown , USA

As a mom who adopted one child from child protective services, I feel sorry for all of the children in this story who will get so little from their mom. And to find out one of them is autistic - which means he/she needs even more. I wouldn't listen to a word of advice from this person.

Nancy, Pasadena, USA

The Doctor needs to be struck off the register before he repeats this.. Disgusting!

c.debs, Perth, WA

A strong desire to have children and the availability of IVF doesn't justify a single woman undergoing IVF. Here comes another "unfortunate single mom" and the liberal media will fan the flames of sympathy for her. Childrearing is a privilege, not a right, and she's been irresponsible.

Denise, Traverse City, USA

The medical team responsible for the fertility treatments should loose their licences. The birth mother had no business bringing 8 babies into this world who have no father, no home, and a mother with an untreated psychiatric disorder. This is really disgusting; I hope the USA gives her no fame.

JL Miller, Johnstown, USA

Who doesn't want to be turned into a rich star?

Rebecca, Bradford,

This could be one of the most surreal and subversive takes on the American dream I have ever heard.

Joseph Rogers, Warwick, UK

To pay this woman for her story would be wrong. She is a horrible role model.

Kathy, Atlanta, USA

If a woman's on welfare and unmarried, it should be illegal to have IVF without a benefactor/sponsor who will assume paternal responsibilities. Any doctor performing this procedure without a "father" being defined.. assumes the role of "father" because they're performing nature's role.

jhowe, NJ, USA

Shame on the grandparents and doctors who have enabled this woman to produce 14 children without the ability to provide for them. The only deal she should be looking for is putting at least 12 of her children in good adoptive homes. Before leaving the hospital at least get a hysterectomy!

Cheryl, Oklahoma City, United States

Since the mothers goal was to have us support her family the children should be placed up for adoption so truly loving devoted parents can give them each the individual love they deserve. She should not be allowed to use them as a way to finance her lifestyle by the news media or celebrities.

Carol Foura, Northumberland, USA

All respect for Diane Sawyer, Oprah Winfrey, et al, will go down the drain should they fall prey to sensationalist journalism and interview her. How did she pay for the IVF and subsequent births? Or should I ask, who paid for this? Government assistance? Nothing has answered this question yet.

bea, wilmington, usa

The only factor that should determine how many children she may have is her dependence on welfare programs. Regardless of the number of children she has, using your children as a paycheck speaks volumes of the inability of the mother to make rational decisions if she cannot provide for them.

J. Mack, Elkhart, IN, United

WOW! I knew that she was after money and I was right. So who pays the bills us TAXPAYERS(of course LOL)I think the hospital should present her a BILL for the BIRTHS of 8 babies that all require Food, clothing, medical and ect. UNREAL!

fran, Susanville, untied states

I'm glad I don't live in the US. I would not want to see my tax dollars go to people who behave in this way. She had no husband, no job and 6 kids already before having these 8. Who did she think would care for the kids and pay for them?

Patricia, Wellington, New Zealand

Absolutely ridiculous that this crazy woman wants others to pay for her mistake, BIG mistake!

Peter, Seoul, Korea

Attention Seeking Behavior and she expects hard working citizens to support her? I say forget the interview and let her seek attention elsewhere!

Lynn, Salina, United States

What a disgrace, Oprah & Diane Sawyer / Media - why would you indulge this person, I feel very sorry for the children involved, bred for one reason only - to become the next TV Family. I have absolutely no respect for this Mother, nor the Dr's that allowed this, the Drs should provide for them.

Jayne, Sturbridge, USA

And this is what's wrong with the world. Forget global warming. It's irresponsible breeding that is destroying us.

Brennan, San Jose, US

How much does a single mom on welfare get if she has 14 children?

sharon, seattle,

Oprah - don't interview her.

James, London, United Kingdom

Obviously this is completely wrong, however it seems to me that most of people here envy that she may get 2m$ just for selling her story to people like them or to themselves.

Joris, Brussels, Belgium

These are the grand-children of a Palestinian refugees, and should be granted by the United Nations agencies, the same financial privileges as the grandchildren of Palestinian refugees living in Jordan and Lebanon. The family should not be disadvataged for chosing hard work in a democratic country.

M. Wallach, New York, USA

IVF is very expensive. Is it possible this was paid for by us taxpayers? After all this is California, a welfare capital extraordinaire. And what about the hospital bills? Us again? My man the donor - All of you donors - Hold on to your wallets.

Marka, Key Largo, USA

In vitro yet again being unethically giv en. Before it was a 60 year old in Ityaly and later India and now a mother on welfare who already cannot support the six children she has. Where is the common sense these supposed learned medics should have! It is a disgrace.

Joosje Bekink, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

How was she able to get IVF treatment when she was single & had so many other children? To me IVF is for couples who have been unable to have children naturally & don't have any from previous relationships.

Dianne, Auckland, New Zealand

I don't understand why a mother would risk her life, knowing that she has 6 children at home that need her. That is what I don't understand. Now that she is asking for $2 million for an interview - WAS IT ALL ABOUT MONEY? One has to wonder. Are your 14 children worth $2 million? Lord help her!

Lisa, Atlanta, USA

My wife and I have one son but always wanted more children but could not afford to have them, as we both are on low wages. Cases like this sicken me.

The father, the person whose DNA was in those sperm should be compelled to provide for these children, both financially and with child care.

Crispin Mount, Cirencester, UK

So my question is, who paid for the IVF procedure in the first place? I will not watch any show that involves these people. This is so wrong.

J Montgomery, Huron, USA

Enough is enough.Seek psychiatric assistance lady.

Another 8 barren on the public dole,in addition to those in this

household prior to the birth.

Totally unethical behavior on the part of the the health care "provider"

Jeff Gray, Landis, USA

This woman is, unfortunately, sick.

Sharron, Santa Barbara, USA

Although having 8 children is a feat in instelf - why on earth when she already had 6 children was she given IVF. So many motherless children would have loved to be in her shoes. Very selfish woman. I jsut ownder if she will get as many benefits in the USA as she would in Britain?

Laura, Ediburgh, Scotland

As a Christian I find this persons lifestyle so morally wrong, what happens to the children as they grow up and are told of their background? and her parents where are their heads at? sorry lady you need to sort our your life style and the that vacuum you keep filling with children try Jesus instead

Linda S, Pinjarra, Australia

While I symphathize wit the live of the children (perhaps they should be taken into care), I suppose as Brits we should be glad that these did not happen in the UK. Otherwise, we would be million of pounds out of pocket through all the benefit, housing etc that the generous welfare state will pay out

Steven, Berkshire, UK

Sit up and take note: Don't mess with nature! Families need fathers! IVF should not be available for anyone who has not got a supportive husband, who is not able to cope financially&who is not able to give the child the care, love and time it needs. Surely noone would argue with that? Use your head!

Sarah, Hampshire, UK

Over 20 years ago in Boston, liberals felt it was unfair that only rich people had access to fertility drugs, so they offered fertility treatments to women on welfare. This is a mental illness.

People on the public dole void of personal responsiblity and the liberals who encourage it. All sick.

oscarbozach, Boston, MA, US

How can this woman believe, with all the research out on the importance of fathers to children's healthy development, that America will look to her as a "childcare expert" when she purposely brought them into the world knowing full well they were not going to have a father there to help raise them?

Heather, Bemidji, USA

In this day and age it should be a crime to have that many children, especially when you are unable to afford them the needs they will have growing up. This world is overpopulated and this indeed sets a poor example of what people should be doing - having huge families straining world resources.

Chris , Comox, Canada

You may want to consider that teachers deal with 20-32 children in a classroom for 6 hours a day and see how this might connect with parenting 14.

Maureen, CA, USA

The saddest part of all is that all 14 of these children will pay for the choices their mother made.

Barbara, Panama City, USA

how can any person decide what child should live and what child should die? people its a done thing and the 14 babies should not have to suffer period.she should quit now i agree. so get over it and move on

cindy, dallas, usa

How is a single mother going to feed and care for 14 children on her own? Who is footing the hospital bill? How irresponsible she is, just think, she will try to raise 14 on her own. Although the tax payers will be PAYING for those kids, one way or another. I hope TV avoids her like the plague.

Rosie, KENOSHA, usa

I don't know who was more irresponsible - the doctor or the mother. A single mother with all of those children and now expecting Oprah to make her a star.

Is there such a thing as psychological screening before this type or any type of medical intervention?

D Maruzzella, Downingtown, United States

Sounds more like a story for Maury than Oprah. If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em.

Jim, Welches NC, USA

I'm sickened and angry that a single mom of six is able to get access to a fertility procedure when couples who have no children can't afford it. She is NOT and should not be allowed to call herself a "childcare expert" - she should be ashamed of what she has done!

Amanda, Long Beach, USA

Unfortunately not donating money/products will ultimately punish the children and they should not suffer because of their mother's poor decision. Their mother will exploit them as long as she can. Hopefully CPS can find reason to step in and place the children in good homes.

Sharon, Plano, TX, USA

Ok, first off, if you can't "AFFORD" to take care of the current six kids you have, why in hell would you have another 8????? And now she wants 2mil in sponsors? You should be looking for a job let alone looking for a free way out in life!!!

Ryan Ty, West Los Angeles, USA

Let us not forget that the children had no say on wether to be brought into this world or not!! Keep you're remarks on their mother but let the little innocent one's be.

Kangethe, Nashua,

I will lose all respect for Diane Sawyer and Oprah if they pay this woman anything let alone $2 million. She is no expert on children. A single mother with 14 children. And who is going to pay the millions of dollars in hospital bills - us the taxpayers I'm sure. Disgusting!

Lorraine, Sterling Heights, USA

I thought IVF was for couples or at least single's with a brain?

The medical system is in real serious trouble when they can turn away the needy but help the greedy!!! My thoughts are where has common sense gone from the human race......

jacki 000000000, melb, australia

While I feel sorry for her children, I can't help feel empathy toward the grandparents in this situation. It isn't right for this woman to put such burden on their shoulders when they should be enjoying their retirement.

Eli, Allentown, USA

When will we have the courage to stand up and say enough is enough and take a stand. A stand for common sense, perspective, integrity and honesty. Is anything and everything allowed? Just say NO and walk away.

Bridget, Seattle, USA

How come it's always the people having children that can't afford them. I'm tired of watching my pay check disappear to these people. Grow up and think of your children and the life your making for them.

Tracy, Eaton,

US public reaction mixed? I don't think so. I can't remember an issue that has arroused such a common outcry.

Rick, Roseburg, USA

What about the needs of the children? What's done is done--we need to have empathy for the children and concern for their well-being. It is not our job to judge the mother's decision (even if we disagree). Let's brainstorm about how to help this family raise healthy well-adjusted children. IDEAS

Kay, Toronto, Canada

And just who paid for this unemployed welfare case to have previous IVF treatments? And who paid for the eight this time? Who will pay for the upbringing of these 14 children. You guessed it. The US taxpayer! Everything by "Medi-Cal" & “Temporary” Aid to Needy Families". Welfare run amok.

Bob Evans, Lowestoft,

How is this different from the family in UT that has 18 children? They sold their story to TLC and now they can move into a bigger house? How can these people be educated & act so irresponsibly? Think of the carbon footprint of these foolish women & men. They are making my 2 childrens' world a mess!

Susan, denver,

Seriously? Whatever happened to common sense? Who can take care of 14 children under the age of 7, by herself? To top it off, let's exploit the kids before they even make it home. This is so wrong, on so many levels, I don' t even know where to start.

Bientje, Chestertown,

I agree that this is a disgusting situation, however, I do not agree with the opinion that the children should not be taken care of by our taxes. It is in NOW WAY the children's fault that their mother was so foolish, and the children should not be punished for it. Punish the mother, not the kids

Adam Ellis, Ivins, USA

It is not proper for a single mother who already has 6 children to have more children because of the finance problems. It would not be fair for her parents to take care of her too many children. How could she support her 14 children when she has no job?

Janice Wood, San Ramon, California, USA

I would like to know who paid for her Kaiser bill? That must be why our medical is so high!

Gloria, redondo beach,

These poor Grandparents, forget about retirement!!!

Linda, Florida, USA

I just think that this is ridiculous. There are people who can't have children and want them so bad and never have them. This is just a ploy to get help. I think that is sad. I feel bad for the kids.

Carrie, lancaster, United States

Why do I think the taxpayers of California will be raising this woman's children?

Bob, Redding, CA, u.s.a.

In considering applicants for fertility treatments, isn't any research done as to her ability to actually raise them? Did the fertility specialist not know, or ask, how many children she already had? Is there no screening at all???

Sharon, Lafayette, Louisiana, USA

For a couple of people that asked about who payed for the birthing staff and NICU stays, normally in high publicity large births like these, the Hospitals will not charge the mother, but rather hope to recoup the loss through the positive marketing from the news coverage. Sadly, it is not positive.

Thomas, Seattle,

I agree that family and childrens services should step in. If they know that the father is someone she is familiar with then the law should make him support them. I sincerely hope that Oprah and others do not try and promote this woman. I do hope we find out how she was able to afford that procedure

Teresa, Hiram, United States

I propose that the following LAW BE ADOPTED: A doctor that implants IVF embrions to an unmarried lady should be considered the father of the resulting children and should bare all the financial responsibilities of a father towards these offsprings.

Mike, Melbourne, US

Just when the Brits thought our benefits system was giving incentives to the wrong people to breed... the US's private system demonstrates that it is worse!

I agree with the above. Parents should need a licence to have children - in the event that they want state hand outs...

Ian, Cardiff, UK

This is what is wrong with our country! Wake up people...I have a hard enough time raising my two children much less her and her 14 rugrats.

Carlee, fayetteville, usa

one autistic child will require enormous energy and dedication. competing with 13 others; well...this woman certainly sounds mentally unbalanced. solution: mandatory contraceptive vaccine for all welfare and underaged women, increased tax penalties after one child, and mandatory child support.

f robertson, santa rosa , usa

They make a person who choses to have gastric bypass surgery go through an extensive psychological evaluation before doing a potentially lifesaving surgery yet they will fill crazy ill-equipped woman with a bunch of fertilized eggs (aka children) and send her on her merry way?

Lynnzie, Simsbury,

It is very hard to feel supportive for someone who makes choices that are clearly not in the best interest of her family and other children. Other people perhaps would like to have more children but didn't because they were responsible enough to acknowledge that they couldn't support them.

Shelley, Huntington, USA

Shame on Oprah and Diane Sawyer for interviewing this woman! I'm sorry, but wasn't SIX children enough for her in the first place? Irresponsible and reprehensible is what I call this woman.

Erin, San Jose, USA

How sad that someone would use children in this manner.

To be sold like a cheap fad. I think it is time to stop rewarding stupid and let the chips fall where they may. If Oprah supports this type of behavior then I will have a problem with that .I love and respect her and her causes. Not this.

Joanne, Houston, Texas

It's a shame, thought I'm glad the kiddos are ok, it seems like she's just greedy. I can't have children without help of a fertility specialist, but what she's doing is rediculous and insane. She is the reason it's hard for those of us who actually TRY to succeed in life.

Jessica, Pocatello, USA

Shame on her for abusing the system and showing a bad example to her children that it's okay to do whatever they want by not taking the advantage of donation, tax break, and media exposures. Such an irresponsible act and system abuse!!

leticia, Mt View, CA,

I'll be surprised if this shops that well with Oprah. So far as I know, the self-applauding governor from Alaska didn't. Apparently the former governor of Illiinois didn't. It appears that ethics and sincerity count with Oprah's people. This situation has a pathological and manipulative feeling.

Gaias Child, Springfied, OR, USA

It's completely outrageous and unrealistic that this woman expects to somehow be compensated for her huge lack of responsibility. She sounds like someone who has what I like to call "entitlement syndrome." How was she able to pay for IVF, let alone convince a doctor to perform the procedure?

Katja, Denver,

What a sad story! I really feel sorry for the children and hope the media decides not to support this type of behavior!

really?, smithville,

OMG

what a selfish person! When there are so many unwanted live babies, and people who cannot have children or afford to concieve them this way, and shame on the the fertilization clinic that let this go on. Why didn't they screen this person, unless the wanted to share the lime light too. How sad.

Pat Przonek, Sorrento, Fl

There are so many people in the US that can not have children. This is a slap in the face to them. No one knows what the living conditions are for the other six children or if they are healthy mentally or physically. Nine people in a two bedroom is legal? I think not CPS do your job!!

Patsy, Maryland, USA

Perhaps this mother is autistic (as is one of her older children). From what I can gather it sounds like she had a fascination and perseveration with children and motherhood. Perseverations that are this intense usually present within the rubric of autism.

Gena, baltimore, usa

This is incredibly irresponsible on many levels. It is very likely that these children will have helath problems as earlier as their teen years. Not only does she not have the money to raise these children, there is no way these children will have their emotional needs met.

Bev, Lake Forest, USA

I cannot believe people are donating money to this woman. If you have money in this economy give it to a war veteran who is homeless, or a widow, someone who didn't make a bad decision and expects others to pay the price!

Bev, Lake Forest, USA

If we are to use this story as media fodder, let it be for education... not for entertainment. Let's use this example as "How NOT to raise a family." Other than that, this family doesn't need our television time, they need child protective service intervention.

Julie, Holland,

Are you kidding me? Why should we have to support her carelessness? This is a complete joke and the fact that she is demanding this money makes it even more laughable. Get out of our country, take your problems elsewhere. You are irresponsible and foolish.

Eric, portland, united states

This irresponsible woman decided to have these children on her own, so she should not depend on the tax payers to support her children.

Denise, Honolulu, USA

I don't see why she had in vitro fertilization except that she did it as amoney making scheme. She already had 6 kids that she couldn't support and din't have the time or space for. Then she went and had eight more. Now she wants to get a $2 million TV contract "to raise her kids with"!!

Chris, Staten Island, USA

I'd like to know who paid for her fertility treatment especially when she was unemployed and had six mouths to feed.

deb, Austin, USA

The US is in crisis because of people like her-having kids she can't afford and using aid to get an education she has no intention of utilizing. They will have a minimum of 17 people living in a 2 BR home. She will be lucky if Child & Family Services lets her keep those kids. Absolutely disgusting!

Fritz, Carbondale,

I am extremely upset by this woman continuing to have children when she already has 6 that she cannot afford to take care of herself! Shame on the dr. that implanted all of those embryos! Let him pay for the children's needs. How irresponsible of both!

Paula , Wooster, USA

She didn't know that it costs a lot of money to raise one child, never mind 14. I guess she didn't get that far in school. I think this is another example of being irresponsible and she wants Oprah to pay. What next have her house (assuming she has one) renovated for free from that TV show? .

Elayne, Boston,

I was disgusted when I found out she already had 6 children. Who paid for the fertility treatment because its not cheap. Isn't there some screening involved because obviously a single mother with six children at home doesn't need eight more. Next she will be looking to get her own show on TLC.

Jackie, portland, usa

Well should we thank this "mom' for having more children. I should think not. The goverment takes enough taxes out of my paycheck to support people like her. I bust my butt to work a full time job and work overtime to support myself .Guess she can'y get a job now being a full time mom of 12.

Donna D, Palm Harbor, Florida

New meaning to the "American dream"; come have 14 kids and go on Oprah... It is a nonsense. If the multiple births were the unexpected results for a woman using fertility drugs to have children that would be a different story. It would seem that Ms. Suleman did this with celebrity aforethought.

Jim, New York, USA

I nominate this woman as the perfect example of why there should be a "Procreation tax" and licensing requirements.

Phil, New Orleans,

Everything about this is grotesque. The miracle of birth is replaced by the miracle of science. The whole thing is an ethical nightmare. It is morally wrong for her and her doctors to have made the choices they did. They risked her life - but more to the point -they risked the babies.

Peter Hamady, morristown, USA

Wow - Does it seem clear this was a career move

M. Kramer, Wexford, USA

This is totally outrageous and completely irresponsible. Why should America support this and, moreover Oprah and Diane? The only thing she is an expert in is living on welfare. I am a mother of 4 and I WORKED to support and rear my children not live off grants and other people who PAY TAXES..

Elaine, Lakeland, USA

While I'm pleased that the babies are apparently ok, this is outrageous . How incredibly irresponsible of this mother. I hope Oprah and Sawyer ignore her, as this type of irresponsibility must NOT be encouraged. And this will likely cost California taxpayers many, many millions!

Steve, LA, USA

Isn't this a form of child abuse?

John Touns, riverhead, usa

People like this should not be rewarded for irresponsible actions. We need to find ways of rewarding self-responsible parents, not fame-seeking pathological people without the sense that God gave geese.

Rosey, Western North Carolina, USA

6+8=too many children

Clara Mozdenski, Twin Falls,ID, usa

This is not a story that will inspire others. The more we know about her and the situation in which the babies are born the more absurd it is. I doubt if anyone would give her a contract. Oprah only promotes someone who is a good role model. A role mode this woman is NOT.

Suzanne, Phoenix, America

Revolting! The amount of money for the 46 medical staff is being paid for by what organization, or is it our tax money? Also the hospital care, etc. Who's going to support her? Is she on welfare? Why so many kids when you can't give them the best in attention, food, health provisions, education,

Theo, New York, USA

Controversial and ethical over a spectrum of social and individual rights issues. Should a welfare mom who has no real financial nor family structural support depend on society to bear the costs of her ego and desire to produce this many children? The local talk radio stations are having a hay day.

Wayne Hall, Laguna Woods, US

I'd be much more interested in what this mom has to say if she had about 12 fewer children and a job. Her irresponsibility will cause us US taxpayers several million dollars. That doesn't make her an expert on anything.

Dave, Northford, USA

The fact is that the present administration is on track to roll back the welfare reform the Republicans forced on Bill Clinton. He didn't want to do it, but once he was forced into it he took full credit for the success of the legislation. The fact is that when government subsidizes bad behavior...we get more of it. We will see more of this ####### in coming years. Dims love unwed mothers. It is their bread and butter.

I'm not sure removing all the financial incentives to have children would have influenced her decision in this case. Some people make the decision to have kids on factors other than whether they can financially support the children they are about to have. Changing the tax or welfare structure would have little influence on these types of people.

If she didn't have access to welfare/food stamps etc. She would probably still have the kids but instead lean on friends/family/community for assistance.

She said herself in the Today interview that she expects family and volunteers to help raise them. It's like if I poured cat litter all over the yard then demanded the neighborhood help me clean it up.

Nobody makes policy decisions based on the actions of one person. This is not normal behaviour. It's not going to happen every day, if ever again. The family have to face most of the consequences of this persons decisions, not 'greater society' no matter how much people think they do 'suffer' because of her weird choices.

Luckily the millions of kids born into poverty and unstable families don't exist in America. The octomom isn't a role model but millions of worthless parents are for the next generation of the underclass.

i dont think its right to want her dead or to threaten to kill her.

and i hope that she finds away to support her children on her own i pray that God grants her the ability to provide everything that the children need in the future by work from her own hands.....................................................

Don't hold your breath.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I am posting the response of people and reactions because i think you ll find it as interesting as i did. Plus it ll be something to look at if the board gets a bit boring!

THE single mother of octuplets born in California last week is seeking $2m (£1.37m) from media interviews and commercial sponsorship to help pay the cost of raising the children.

I think this sends a poor message to our youth.Donna, Lake Villa, USA

I highlighted some responses so that reading doesnt hurt the eyes!

What disturbs me most about this story is less that she's received welfare (although that's a problem) but more that she thought she could leverage this story into some kind of media/television career using her multiple births to become some kind of fame-####### C-list celebrity. She's really thought the whole thing through, including having what appears to be plastic surgery. She obviously saw the IV as some kind of of investment in this future career. It's really sick.
