So a farmer has to protect their property while the United States government does nothing. Never heard of that happening at Palm island.

When is this country going to grow some balls and get over pandering to a 3rd world country.

I just drove I-10 through Texas the other night and saw several teams of Border Agents working, so I can assure you they are not "doing nothing".

I'm wondering what the details of the case are, because it sounds outrageous that the suit wasn't dismissed if all he did was call the cops. Maybe his method of "rounding them up" was inhumane, but you'd think details like that would be relevant and reported. (Under U.S. law, there isn't a distinction based on citizenship as to whether a person has basic civil rights, by the way.)

I was wondering that too. Certainly doesn't seem to be a very strong case, the way its presented in the article.

He should have finished the job! We need to round up the rest of these criminals and send them back to Mexico! :)

Murder charges are nice too I suppose.

The modern day cowboy. Herd 'em all back to Mexico - if they look latino, off they go, no matter if they are legal or not. Gotta take the rough with the smooth, serves their sorry asses right for not ratting on their illegal mates!

I'm going to write in to Obama now, that should take care of the employment problem and help spend some of that nice stimulus money...

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I often wonder why anyone chooses to legally immigrate these days. Let's compare the two:

Legal Immigration

1. Spend tons of time apart.

2. Pay tons of money.

3. Provide proof of a relationship (and possibly get told to show more proof later on).

4. Go through the hassle of making trips to see your loved one.

5. Have to deal with Customs, which could turn you away.

6. Once here, you need to still go through a huge roll of red tape.

7. Visas can be difficult to get.

8. Open bank accounts, get credit cards and own property.

9. Get a driver's license.

10. Vote in elections.

Illegal Immigrants

1. Can be together right away.

2. No money necessary.

3. No proof necessary.

4. After crossing the border, no trips are required.

5. No Customs to deal with.

6. No red tape.

7. Visas of all kind are irrelevant.

8. Open bank accounts, get credit cards and own property.

9. Get a driver's license (or drive illegally).

10. Vote in elections (this is due to voter's registration at the DMV).

So what is the benefit to legally immigrating? With illegal immigrants demanding their "constitutional rights" every day, the line between legal and illegal quickly becomes blurred.

That's just silly. If you can do it legally, or course you will! Wait times and costs are as nothing to the benefits. Still, you did the illegal route yourselves because it was more 'convenient'? No, you did it legally because you are upright citizens. Laugh, not a lot.

Wow... such a convenience to be illegal. Golly gee... I am flabbergasted, why- then... VJers don't just up and out themselves into the illegal process and be done with it.

Sarcasm detector faulty Charles? My point, you did it legally because there are SIGNIFICANT benefits from the legal route and nobody in their right mind would go illegal if they have the legal option. Therefore the 'list' is meaningless rhetoric serving no one any good.

It's a valid comparison, Cleo. Is it true 100% of the time? Of course not. Nothing is always true. However, there seems to be some very significant drawbacks to immigrating legally and some very significant advantages to immigrating illegally. Whether or not you (or anyone else) sees that might depend on your own point-of-view.

Would I want to immigrate legally? I did, but to Canada (no, this had nothing to do with Obama). Despite what some people on here might think, I actually do respect the law and would prefer being in any country on a legal basis. But that's me. How many people -- many of whom have far less resources -- are going to look at the comparisons and think: "Wow. I get to spend all this money, wait all this time and go through excessive government BS, just so I can honestly say I'm legal. That sure does sound like a good idea!"

In addition, there are other factors to consider. Unless you can gain a family visa (which necessitates having family in the U.S.) or a work visa (which is rarely granted unless you're a genius or a superstar), you have no options. At least none that are readily available and wouldn't keep you outside the country for years.

In effect, the government is partially to blame for the current situation. That does not absolve the incoming illegals, however. If the government made some sort of provision for those who without work or family visa opportunities, perhaps more people would enter legally. We'd also have to make life very uncomfortable for illegal aliens. While we couldn't get rid of illegals entirely, the above might lessen the problem.

When people have little to no options, and family survival is at stake, people will do what they have to do.

I used to talk a lot about making the inequality less unequal when we have traditionally been (as a government and economy and even as a geography) on the positive receiving end... then we solve any problems that arise as a result of that inequality by turning the unequal into equals. Or we can continue the unequal relationship, continue benefiting as a whole... and continue to see problems arise.

How about the guy that beat up a burglar and the burglar sued and was awarded 100K for pain and suffering! :bonk:

Did the burglar try to get away or did the burglar assault the homeowner? That's probably made some difference although IMO he shouldn't have been awarded anything due to the burglary. Bringing up vague examples without specifics is lame.
