I just want someone to clarify what needs to be done for this. I know it refers to Q18 on the I-129F form. I understand the types of evidence that needs submitting but I am more concerned with the format required for it.

Do you need to type out a page of A4 explaining when you both have actually met in the past two years with references to specific pieces of evidence e.g. boarding cards etc? So its like telling a story of how we both met?

I also want to know if both of us need to sign it?

TIA

Write a letter, no more than one page. They do not need a love story, they need a statement of how you met.

"we met in a chat room on the internet, started corresponding by email then telephone, after several months of daily communications I made a trip to visit her in July, 2007 (photos and travel documents attached) and she agreed to marry me"

That is about all you need. Attach a photo and travel documents from the trip which precipitated your meeting, nothing else. Save all the other stuff for the visa interview. You should attach at least one photo of you together, does not matter where it was taken, as long as it appears to be within the last two years. Date stamped is better.

Only you need to sign the letter

Only you as in the USC?

Yes, the person submitting the petition. That would be the USC.

I was reading K-1 Fiance Visa: Tips on Forms and Documents

"The following items may make your life easier and help you get a little sleep at night :-) :

Make sure that your "original statement of having met in person" (you and your fiance should write one) is signed by hand in ink by each person and not just typed. You should ask your fiance to write this when you are first starting work on the I-129F since it will likely take them a few days to do this and and even longer for them to mail to you (international mail can be slow if sent at the standard speed). "

Is it really necessary for both petitioner and beneficiary to make this statement? :)

in the instruction an original statement of intent is required from both... This is different than Q18 though many people will do some sort of combination covering both items in one

YMMV

So if you both file a separate letter of intent to marry in 90 days only one signature is required on the declaration of how we met document?

The I-129F is a petition from the USC. The form is only signed by the USC. The declaration on how you met is a component of the I-129F (Q18). I was able to answer it withing the box on the form. If you attach a supplement it is a response to Q18. No special instructions are given for this unlike the statement of intent

It would be a wise idea to research any of your red flags that might come up at the interview and address them with this petition, along with any material evidence backing your case. If I had to do it over again that is what I would have done. I believe it could have saved me the additional 15 months due to a denial.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

That is good advice for those going through the more difficult consulates

If you have met in person, what is hard about describing your meeting?

Its a question more regarding whether both people need to sign it and how formal/informal the description of how we both met should be.

The "How we Met" description is for question #18 on the I-129F application. You the petitioner are supposed to sign that. No need to sign the How we Met paper.

ALSO to be included in your packet will be two separate letters. Each will state that one intends to marry the other within 90 days upon arrival in the new country. You sign one, your other signs the other.
