Just checking back to see how Colombia Club is doing....wow, now on to Part II. So glad to see that when this thread got reinvigorated 4+ years ago, it's carried on. I married my wife in Bogota in September, 2006. She arrived in the U.S. on a K-3 visa with her daughter in January, 2007. She's since become a permanent resident and, as of October, a U.S. citizenship. My daughter adapted to the U.S quickly and easily, learning English very quickly. My wife has found learning English a little harder, but it doing well and will take formal university classes starting in the spring. Overall, our journal has been very successful. We wish the same good fortune to all of you. If I can ever answer any questions, let me know. If's been a while since I've been through the visa process, but as you progress, if you have questions about moving your spouse to the U.S., the lifting of conditions process, the citizenship process, or other issues (particularly if you new spouse comes with children), just shoot me an e-mail.

Good luck!

Hello all,I'm spending the next few weeks getting everything and anything that I can think of in preparation for our interview in a month. I read somewhere that NVC sends a letter to the petitioner after they send the petition on to the embassy. So far, I have all of the information that I need but never received any kind of letter or other notification from NVC. Is this normal? Do I need this letter for any other process in this journey? Does such a letter even exist?

I may just be overthinking this.....but you never know. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of a petitioner getting a letter from the NVC for K visas, only for CR/IR visas. The letter is pretty much the appointment package, the same one the beneficiary is supposed to get in Colombia.

Just want to wish everyone a merry christmas and happy new years. Good luck to all with up coming interviews.

sandra has been here now for a week and she likes it but all we have been doing is running around looking for stuff for the wedding

Thanks for the responses. It must be as Diana has said. I've been spending too much time reading the CR/IR forums. We did get packet 3 and today the list of January appointments are out and as we were told by DOS, our interview is 1/19/11.

It pays to check with DOS ahead of notification from the embassy. I saved $106 on my airfare because I had the opportunity to reserve more than a month in advance.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!

That's a great tip that I hadn't thought about. Trying to reach the DOS for your appointment date before the US embassy bothers in letting you know about it.

I received a letter from The State Department's National Visa Center dated 10/20/10 (they forwarded our petition to Bogota on 10/19/10) stating they have forwarded our petition. The letter shows the name of the Fiance, INS Receipt Number and our Case Number starting with the BGT. The letter also includes the address of the embassy in Bogota and that the packet with the instructions from the consular section on how to apply for the K-1 visa at that post and what documents will be required. Finally it give a website address to visit the Department of State to determine if the processing post has any information of which you should be immediately aware. The letter is "signed" Bureau of Consular Affairs. But I have no idea if you actually need this letter for anything. It is prety generic and the only useful information is the name and case numbers, and of course, acknowledgment they actually sent the petition to Bogota. I'll take the letter with me for the interview next month, but I really doubt they will even ask for it.

I kind of wondered if there shouldn't be something. I work for the government and we don't mave a piece of paper without filling out another piece of paper saying that we moved the first piece of paper.

I have all of the information that I would have received in a letter like the one that you got, so I'm still OK.

Hope to see you both when I get there.
