@laura: we have a mileage program.

What kind of car seat do you all use?

I've read that for safety reasons, you should go with an infant seat rather than a convertible. I was thinking that this one was kind of the best of both worlds:

103091ZURICH000.jpg

It's the Graco SnugRide 32 - it's an infant seat, but with a weight capacity of 32 lbs. rather than the 22 lbs. of the typical infant seats.

What do you think?

(I'm starting to create my registry so I actually have to think about all this stuff now - wow!)

u should go for it. i bought a graco travel system, that has that snugride 32. totally worthy.

Nessa@ Did you say 5k? you should consider buying your own plane, not seriously, that's very expensive, the most we paid to go to Peru was two X-mas ago $2600 for both. The key is to fly during the week'cause the weekedns are alwasy more expensive. I'm checking web sites all the time.

Copa airlines is pretty descent, the problem I have is that my hubby is spoiled and he likes to fly direct,he hates connections, I don't mind but he is spoiled.

Cross your fingers girls my mommy is going to have a serious conversation with my hubby as we say in spanish "se jugara su ultima carta" she will play her last card this Wednesday, she will try to convince him about my trip. Pray for me. They are really cool to each other so lets' see what happens.

Jenn - we were just looking at that carseat over the weekend at BRU. Seems to be a really good carseat from all I have read so far. Graco is a reputable brand so that is always nice. I am interested to see what others think as well.

Everyone = Regarding baby registries...where did you register? I am having the WORST time doing my registries. I just feel weird asking people for things *ugh* My mom called to tell me that they are throwing me a shower on August 1 (wasn't expecting that at all!) so I better get on the registries. I just don't know what all to put on there. Any tips/helpful hints?

I'm still debating between Target and Babies 'R Us. I'll probably go with Target because it's easier for most people.

I found this list which has been really helpful so far: http://sites.target.com/images/baby/pdfs/b...cklist_2009.pdf

I take all of their "must-haves" with a grain of salt though, because I know they just want to pressure me into buying more stuff!

I'll recommend Babies R Us!

I registered at Target and BRU and people bought from both. In fact thats how we ended up with 2 pnp's. I know I was very lucky, we have some fab friends here and we're into 11th week and still haven't had to buy diapers!

Whn we went to England last year we paid $4500 for 3 of us, this year it will only cost $1800 for all 4 of us! :o It has a lot to do with gas prices and the way the economy is right now. Dh is only staying for 2 weeks, me and the boys are going to stay an extra week and get spoiled by my parents, I am so ready for it.

hey lets buy a VJ airplane (baby corner only, so we don't have to listen to these miserable childless passengers b!tching about our bringing our babies)

@caro: def. have the moles checked out if they are worrisome, if it cannot wait I think local anaesthesia will not hurt the baby. You look great!! Your belly is growing! :star:

@autum: I begged hubby to let me go too, but I guess it's a motorcycle only trip (bike week in Laconia) .... Well, too bad the weather sux and he isn't enjoying himself very much. But he promised to take me to Canada next month. I really want to go to NH sometime, it really isn't very far from our In-Laws (they live northwest of Albany) and that's where we bought the booze for our wedding. haha. Good times.

@Jenn: it never hurts to have more registries. A lot of people bought stuff online off of my registry and shipped it to us. I liked BRUs and Pottery Barn kids, and Target.

I meant to add about car seats, we have the Britax Companion which is being replaced with the Chaperone this month. We love Britax, had the rock-a-tot system with DS1 and now Companion and preview with Henry. I really want the Chaperone so if we have another baby in a year or two I will probably get that!

Jenn, I'm looking at a Snugride also (hubby doesn't care which car seat we choose -- he's been looking at carriers since he plans to wear the baby everywhere :D ).

Is anyone here enrolled in the Upromise program to save money for college? I haven't signed up yet because I don't know how complicated it is to be sure purchases are credited, and I won't really be saving anything if I have to buy a more expensive brand just to get the credit, so I'm looking for someone who's actually tried it to tell me whether they think it's worth the trouble.

The baby measured at about five pounds today (with the tape measure). My own weight was down 7 pounds in the last two weeks since starting the GD diet and Glyburide to get the fasting glucose number down. That's starting to help. Blood pressure was up a little, but I'd been fighting traffic just prior. Two weeks from now, I'll start going in twice a week for a biophysical profile and nonstress test. Seems like everything is on fast-forward now, and it's a little unsettling.

I'm the USC.

@caybee: you're a trooper. I was wondering the same thing about u-promise! someone recommended this to us, but we never actually signed up for it. Good for hubby to carry baby around in a sling/carrier. My husband still loves to carry Ben, it's such a great way for Daddies to bond with the little ones.

about the carseats: we had a Recaro/Maclaren infant carseat that he outgrew within weeks. I think it's rather size than weight that makes them outgrow these infant seats faster. We mostly used a convertible carseat from the beginning. No bad experiences with that- we used a "snuzzler" bodysupport for the first 2 or 3 months. We have an Evenflo and a Britax Boulevard convertible- love them both!! The Britax has a 60lbs capacity and comes with side-impact protection. It reclines a little better than the Evenflo too. Both seats are very very comfy (some seats at the store were very hard and uncomfortable) They are definitely worth the money.

Carol Ann - don't worry about the biweekly visits. I had that starting in my 26th week - it was great to get to see Enzo all the time. It becomes very reassuring to be there with them. 5lbs is big...but now that you're getting your sugars and weight under control you'll find that his growth will even out. Furthermore, your drs will be able to get a very good picture of how big he truly is. The tests are super easy, I think I only had one issue where Enzo didn't want to breathe for us...well they had to do a heart monitor for 30 minutes - all was well, but it did make me nervous for those few minutes. If I didn't mention it before, if you can do any type of walking it will make all the difference in how you heal up after your birth - because I can say this with a touch of certainty - you'll have to have a c-section. But that's no problem if you take good care of yourself now, you should do just fine after birth. I was a walking fool beforehand and my doc said it's what helped me heal quickly.

Feel free to ask me anything about this stuff - I feel like an expert on it. :P

ETA: The walking will help to keep your BP down.

Thanks for the tips and the encouragement, Staashi. I enjoy walking, and it feels especially good after work, but I don't do enough of it. I'll work it into the routine like everything else. I like the diet, and I plan to stay with it for the long term, whether or not the diabetes remains after delivery. I'm a little below my prepregnancy weight at this point, and I think that's made things a little easier overall; this little guy has made me take better care of myself than I have in years, so even though we've got some issues, I feel really good.

My husband finally has a chance to go home for a quick visit after more than two years here, last chance for a good while, and after a lot of discussion and thought, we both decided he should do it. He'll leave on July 4 and get back 3 1/2 weeks before my due date. Booking the ticket with that sort of window didn't seem too risky when we did it, but tonight as I'm reading about the BPPs and NSTs and how an abnormal score can mean an early induction or c-section (I guess pretty immediately?) I'll really be counting the days until he gets back.

we bought a britax convertible for the camaro, because the seat in the camaro is too small so we needed a smaller car seat. it's more expensive, but it has great reviews. it's up to 40 lbs.

Regarding car seats: We are getting the Graco travel system. You save by buying the stroller + car seat together :)

.

Get a good MeiTai as a carrier or the Ergo. No Snugli or Bjorn or whatever, especially when you have a little boy ALL of his weight is gonna be on his crotch. It's better to get something more ergonomical, especially since baby has an unnatural position in the Bjorn when worn forward facing (which unfortunately a lot of parents do).
