any suggestion for translators?

Anyone have suggestions for a trustworthy, low priced translation company? I see many online, but I'm wary of just picking the

cheapest I find...looking to get a certified translation of my fiance's, soon to be husband's , birth certificate for AOS....

how about none?

you don't need to pay a translation service if someone can do it for you. Definitly not required by USCIS... just get it done and follow the translator certificate that this site spells out

ohhh....I didn't see that on VJ earlier....Ok, I see what it says and am relieved I won't have to pay $50-$75 for this...but now, another possibly dumb question. If my fiance is fluent, and can translate it, would it be unthinkable/bad idea for HIM to translate his own birth certificate and just fill out the little "I am capable of translating..." certification thing at the end??? Even as I ask the question, it seems a little weird....Just wondering if it's ever been done..

probably ok... I have not heard anywhere someone having a problem becasue of the translation. Especially if she is interviewing in the consulate of teh country that speaks the language that was translated. (Translations are only needed for the petition cuase it is filed in the US)

In this situation I had translated my birth certificate by myself, then I gave my translation to my friend(who speaks my native language) and she filled out :" I am capable of translating....".

I asked the university language professor to translate for me, signed and dated professionally. (only paid $20 for 2 copies)

I didn't take the risk of translating myself, I'm just too chicken to do so... coz I'm not 100% sure if I am allow to do it myself.

I translated the copy of my Family Registry issued in Japan (which is a combination of Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate, also could be Divorce certificate for some people) and a New Year card from my sister, and signed with the "certification by translator" language. So far, I have not received any REF from USCIS.

Though my situation might be a little different becasue I also submit the English-written Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate issued by Consulate-General of Japan in New York prepared based on the same Family Registry I translated (and I belive those certificates were prepared as official certificates, not as translation). And that's why I was confortable translating it by myself as additional/extra proof.

A translator I have used a couple of times will do a birth certificate for $22 (including shipping and having it notarized). Not a bad deal.

i have used this company a few times for my wife's and kids' documents and have referred them to friends who were happy with the results. They charge about $25 to translate & certify a 1 page document. They are located in Costa Rica. You can email them the document and they will translate and email you a copy of the translation (you can print and use), and then send you a hard copy (to take to the interview) in the mail in 7-10 days.
