What do they do before approving you for the Green Card?

My fiance has been approved for the K-1 Visa and is planning to move to the U.S. on January 31. (Finally!!) I'm becoming familiar with what is needed for the Adjustment of Status, and I'e heard that the U.S. government passes his name through every government department looking for red flags. Does anyone know if they also comb through his country of origin's records?

He will have supplied a police report from his own country prior to receiving the visa, so not to worry during AOS unless he commits a crime in the US after arrival. Since last week the waterboarding has been removed from the AOS interview itinerary too, but they only did that to the US Citizen anyway.
